Karen Miller was born in Vancouver, Canada, but was raised in Sydney, Australia where she still lives today. She wanted to be a writer from early childhood, but that took some time to happen. While she was waiting she worked as a public servant, a receptionist, in the horse industry, in local government, in publishing, in telecommunications, as a college lecturer and ran her own science fiction/fantasy/mystery bookshop. She fell in love with Star Wars when she saw it on the big screen, the very first time it was released in 1977. That love affair has lasted her whole life. So far she's written six mainstream fantasy novels and two Stargate SG-1 tie-ins.

I have been an avid reader of SciFi/Fantasy for 50 years. Everyone from Tolkien to Jordan to Hubbard to Martin. I thought the first book started out too fast but I was wrong. This author has a fantastic imagination and sometimes has Agatha Christie plot twists that you would never see coming. After the first book I instantly purchased three more in the series. I am on the third book with one waiting on the shelf. I will purchase the rest soon. This would make a great movie but I doubt it Hollywood would do it justice.

I love nearly all of Karen Miller's books -- they definitely always have surprises and are a pleasure to read. The prodigal mage was somewhat subpar in that it continues a storyline that is worn out and not much happens for most of the novel. On the other hand, it is finely crafted and the ending makes it all flow together. When I finished, I immediately wanted to order the next. I was even somewhat upset that the author had stopped the story where she had and hadn't just extended the book for a few more hundred pages....

Just finished reading a couple days ago. Excellent addition to Kingmaker/Kingbreaker. Have started the next book (part 2) and am really enjoying it. Karen Miller is an excellent writer. Started reading her books with the Godspeaker trilogy and was thoroughly impressed. Karen Miller is very good at carrying a story where you don't want to put it down.

This is the first book in the new series by Karen Miller set in the same world, Lur, as Her first two books, The Innocent Mage and The Awakended Mage, and what can i say? Amazing. Simply amazing. Go read it, I'm not going to write a eassay about all of the book just simply take my word it was one of the best books I've read this year and if your a fan of her work you wont be dissapointed. I cant' wait for the next.

I am a great fan of the first two books Innocent Mage & Awakened Mage. It was great to see some of the old characters in the book but it took some getting into, I think the writer kept going over the same thing to put her point accross, I couldn't really get into it until halfway & then it picked up pace dramatically. The ending is fantastic - Cliffhanger or The End - read it and see what YOU think !!

This is the sequel to the Innocent Mage duology. The world the story takes place in is well defined and the plot interesting. Unfortunatelty it justs takes too long to work up to the main advent. Asher's reasons for keeping Rafael's magic hidden are a bit weak and Asher himself is not as strong a character as he was previously. Still it makes for a good read and hopefully the sequel due out next year will mark a return to form.
