But now actress Karen Gillan has taken on a new role in real life - as a bride.
Returning to her native Scotland for her fairytale wedding, the 34-year-old yesterday tied the knot with American comedian and actor Nick Kocher, 36, at a star-studded ceremony at Castle Toward, a 19th Century mansion overlooking Rothesay Bay, Bute.
The couple exchanged vows just weeks after their film, The Bubble, aired on streaming channel Netflix.

Throughout the afternoon, parties of family and friends - including Hollywood royalty Julia Roberts and Robert Downey Jr - came ashore at the harbour next to the castle from the Spirit of Fortitude luxury cruiser. Guests then climbed into taxis to be ferried to the castle, which was bathed in sunshine all day.
Ms Gillan has previously donned a wedding dress when her character in Doctor Who, Amy Pond, got married - but yesterday it was the real thing.

One local eyewitness said: 'I just saw Karen Gillan getting married. I was walk- ing my dog through the grounds and saw there was a wedding on.
'I saw her walking down the road with her husband. She was wearing a white bodice-style wedding dress with a long train. She looked absolutely stunning.'

Mr Kocher plays a photographer working on a movie in The Bubble, in which Ms Gillan's character is an actress trying to revive her repu- THE tation. The pair enter a 'bubble' to work during the Covid pandemic.
Although the couple have kept their relationship low-key, they have been spotted together at events.
Ms Gillan has not publicly dated anyone since splitting with photographer Patrick Green almost a decade ago.

Mr Kocher, originally from Atlanta, Georgia, was formerly a scriptwriter for the American TV show Saturday Night Live.

Castle Toward was built in 1820 and replaced a medieval castle dating from the 15th Century, which served as the seat of Clan Lamont.
Entrepreneur Denice Purdie and her husband Keith Punler paid £1.2 million for it almost six years ago with plans to transform it into a five-star wedding and events venue.
Karen was pictured during the nuptials alongside Nick and their nearest and dearest.

'Nick looked so handsome in his kilt. It was the perfect place for a celebrity wedding.'
The newlywed told The Sun himself: 'It’s fantastic - I’m looking forward to it It’s great to be here.'
An additional source told The Mirror: 'We had seen the yacht moored up, but it was only when someone said Julia Roberts had been seen having breakfast in the Rock Cafe and Robert Downey Jr had been seen going into a shop that we realised there was a celebrity wedding happening.
