For one year, photojournalist Karen Ducey filled in as a staff photographer at the PSBJ while staff photographer Anthony Bolante was deployed to the Middle East as a Washington Army National Guardsman. Bolante returned to the PSBJ in July. I had a chance this week to look back at the photos Ducey took during the first half of 2014.
Perhaps the most memorable photos Ducey took were from one of the saddest stories from this past year: The shooting at Seattle Pacific University in June 2014. The emotion in the photos Ducey took that day is hard to forget.
But Ducey's photos also captured the joy and hard work we see in Seattle. From Ivar's clam mascots running along the beach at Golden Gardens, fishermen preparing nets for the season, new pot entrepreneurs and visits from high-profile politicians including Hillary Clinton, Ducey's photos were a snapshot of a year in our city.
