The Best Electric Wine Bottle Openers of 2024, Tested and Reviewed

Never break a cork again

Hand holding an Oster Cordless Electric Wine Bottle Opener with Foil Cutter with a cork

The Spruce Eats / Sage McHugh

A manual wine key corkscrew works fine enough to open a bottle, except when you use it at the wrong angle and can’t get the cork out, or the cork breaks and you have to try again, or small pieces manage to break free and need to be fished out later. It’s then that you think about getting an electric wine opener where you simply hold the corkscrew over the bottle, press a button, and—voila!—the cork is removed, and you can go about your wine.

Gone are the days when bulky electric wine openers were loud contraptions that broke easily. Now the corkscrew is hidden within a stylish gadget worthy of a permanent spot on your bar. In order to help you find your new favorite wine opener, we tested the top electric versions and evaluated each one on its design, ease of use, quality of build, effectiveness, and overall value.

What We Don't Like
  • Red light is harsh

Its sleek design, ease of use, and an included foil cutter are the top reasons we think the Oster’s Silver Electric Wine Opener is an excellent choice. Accented in black, this budget-friendly model opens a wine bottle effortlessly with a single touch. As you hold the opener, the corkscrew penetrates and then removes the cork with one press of the button. The soft-grip handle is comfortable and ergonomically designed.

During testing, we were able to open a bottle of wine in a matter of seconds. It extremely easy to use and we appreciated that it came with its own foil cutter, making the bottle-opening process even easier.

The opener’s charging base measures 5.51 x 5.32 inches and includes storage space for the foil cutter. The unit recharges in six to eight hours and can open about 30 bottles of wine on a full charge. We did find the red power light to be a bit harsh, but that is not a reason to fret with this option.

What We Don't Like
  • Wobbles on charger base

After testing this one, we believe the Secura Electric Wine Opener is among the best available and is very helpful for anyone who needs a little bit of extra help with tasks and heavy lifting. We were impressed right away with the stylish design of this model, with the stainless steel build blending in nicely with the other steel appliances in the kitchen, and were continuously impressed during testing. We found that this model easily removed the cork in seconds thanks to the opener’s one-touch, up/down functionality. Only a tiny bit of pressure was needed when removing the cork but it didn't take that much effort.

It should be noted that you should use it on a level surface and that it does wobble a bit while on the charging station. But we love that you can see if the corkscrew and cork line up through the transparent shell. There’s also a bright LED light illuminating the inner chamber during opening.

It comes in four color options: stainless steel, champagne gold, blue, and rose gold. The opener also includes a foil cutter, which has a storage slot on the base. When fully charged, it can open up to 30 bottles.

What We Like
  • Easy to use

  • Modern design

  • Built-in foil cutter

What We Don't Like
  • No charging base

Electric wine bottle openers are perfect for reducing the risk of cork breakage. This model from Ozeri also reduces the annoyance of cutting a bottle’s sealing foil since it comes with a built-in foil opener.

Upon first receiving this wine opener, we liked its high-tech look and that the bottom of the opener has a light blue glow when charging. While testing, this opener removed a wine’s foil in two seconds, causing it to fall off like a bottle cap.

This model utilizes one-touch functionality for operation, and there’s a blue light and transparent window to help you line up the bottle and the corkscrew. Measuring just 3 inches in diameter, this electric opener can happily live on your counter or bar cart.

This opener doesn’t have a charging base; instead, you can connect it directly to a charging cable. (We don't love this, but it makes it easier to store). A full charge can open about 40 bottles of wine. We also love that the black and brushed metal elements match most kitchens and make it pleasing to the eye enough to leave it on the counter or bar cart when it is not charging.

What We Like
  • Incredibly easy to use

  • Quiet operation

What We Don't Like
  • Stainless steel may show fingerprints

There's perhaps never been a Rabbit opener that asks so little of its user as the brand's Automatic Electric Corkscrew. Measuring 9.5 inches in height and made from elegant stainless steel, the unit fits over the neck of a bottle and will automatically begin to penetrate the cork, auto-ejecting the cork once finished. Included on top of the unit is a built-in plastic foil cutter, under which is housed the charging port that pairs with the included charging cord.

We appreciated the sleek design and overall elegance of this ingenious model. While many of the units we tested included bases—either for charging, or for holding accessories—we thought this one looked particularly classy as a freestanding unit. The automatic action of the corkscrew performed very well, with only one broken cork out of a number of attempts. (To remedy such an occurrence, there's a reset button housed under the plastic foil-cutter—simply insert a pen tip, and anything stuck on the corkscrew's worm will be discharged).

Overall, we found the experience of using this opener to be refreshingly effortless, and it was one of the quietest models we tested as well.

What We Like
  • Hidden magnetic foil cutter included

  • Sleek, stylish design

  • Fully automatic

What We Don't Like
  • AC adapter wall plug not included

Glass bar carts with gold or brass accents are popular in home decor. A sleek opener with an Art Deco style, WITANHURST’s Electric Wine Opener is designed to fit right in.

Available in black, with gold, red, or silver accents, this opener automatically removes the cork when placed on the neck of a bottle and auto-ejects it afterward. A hidden magnetic foil cutter connects to the top of the model and cleverly hides the power button. A compact base for wireless charging and USB charging completes the design. However, the AC adapter wall plug isn't included. After charging, it can open up to 60 bottles.

Appearance-wise, this was one of our favorites. It looks striking and elegant in person. The foil cutter atop the power button was a nice touch, but it did take the foil cutter a few tries to successfully remove the foil. It took out the cork cleanly (no breakage here!) and quickly, though, and for that reason, is one of our top picks.

What We Like
  • Easy to use

  • Comes with extras for wine lovers

  • Great as a gift

What We Don't Like
  • Slightly slower than others

Battery-operated wine openers offer the advantage of more bottle capability on one set of batteries and the ability to swap them out on the go. We love Flauno’s Electric Wine Opener because it can be operated by four AA batteries, enough for 120 bottles of wine, and also comes with other necessary wine accessories.

The main star of the kit is the aluminum wine opener, which features a Teflon drill and LED light in the transparent internal chamber. The opener has two buttons—up or down—for operation and can remove a cork in six seconds. There’s an included foil cutter, a small aerator pourer, and a vacuum stopper for when you’re done with the bottle.

When they call this a kit, they’re not kidding. Though it may feel like overkill for some, this collection of tools may be perfect for those just starting their wine journey. During testing, everything did what it was supposed to do, though the opener took a bit longer to remove the cork than some of the other openers on the list.

Dimensions: 1.77 x 1.77 x 9.92 inches | Material: Aluminum and ABS (plastic) | Color: Metallic Gray | Weight: 1.5 pounds

What We Like
  • Includes foil cutter

  • Includes automatic vacuum sealer and two stoppers

  • Transparent corkscrew mechanism

What We Don't Like
  • Expensive

While some of the electric wine openers on this list aspire to a minimalist simplicity, there are also some options out there that unapologetically feature all the bells and whistles. The Rabbit 3-in-1 Electric Corkscrew, which is exclusive to Williams-Sonoma, doesn't hold back when it comes to nifty features.

The first step when opening a bottle with this premier model is to access the built-in foil cutter, which is cleverly housed in the side of the unit—just pop out the C-shaped cutter and go to work. (We found that it removes foil more effortlessly than most top-down foil cutters.) Next, place the unit over the top of the bottle and monitor your progress through the transparent viewing window while the corkscrew extracts your cork.

The final feature of note is one of the most ingenious: you can preserve whatever portion of your wine is left by utilizing one of the two included vacuum stoppers. Just place a stopper into the open bottle, then turn the unit upside down to access the automatic vacuum sealer. When it's placed onto a stopper, it begins vacuuming air out of the bottle, and it beeps when the process is complete.

While this electric wine opener is definitely on the pricier side, we appreciated the bevy of useful features that are all seamlessly built in to the sleek, handsome unit.

What We Like
  • Great for picnics and travel

  • Charges quickly

  • Transparent shell

What We Don't Like
  • Some wobbling when opening

Though many electric wine openers are cordless and stay charged through multiple bottles, they take up a bit of space. This travel-size opener from Ozeri is perfect for both smaller kitchens and wine lovers who often open a bottle on the road.

Measuring 6 inches tall and weighing 1.12 pounds, this compact opener opens synthetic and natural corks with the push of a button. The transparent shell is great for lining up the opener and seeing when the cork has been removed. It can open up to 80 bottles before needing a recharge and comes with a USB charger, which is helpful for a quick charge in the car.

We found this one the flimsiest, which is unsurprising given that it’s a travel-size opener, but we don't mind that as it means it isn't a huge deal if it breaks or gets lost while away. It is the loudest of the openers we tested, but it did seamlessly open the wine bottle and the transparent shell was helpful.

Final Verdict

The top spot goes to the Oster Silver Electric Wine Opener because it makes bottle opening super easy: It features one-touch functionality and a built-in foil cutter. Plus, it's sleek and budget-friendly. Looking for a less expensive option? Try the high-tech, budget-friendly option, Ozeri Nouveaux Electric Wine Opener.

How We Tested

All of the wine openers in this article have been carefully chosen by our editors and writers. Expert home-testers spent weeks evaluating all of the products featured here. After rating each item based on a comprehensive list of methodologies, and ranking them on key attributes, our experts provided personal feedback to update this roundup.

Some of the attributes we looked for and rated each item on included the design, quality of build, effectiveness, and overall value of the wine opener, as well as ease of use.

Other Options We Tested

  • The Rabbit Compact Electric Wine Opener shares a lot of similarities with its sibling the Rabbit Automatic Electric Wine Opener, featured on this list—the main difference being that this one, predictably, is not "automatic," and requires that a button be held down in order to operate it. This makes the operation just a little less streamlined, and since the units are priced similarly, we found ourselves gravitating toward the automatic option.

What to Look for in an Electric Wine Bottle Opener

Design

Some electric wine bottles are basic, while others are so fancy they deserve to be displayed prominently. Consider where you’re going to store your wine opener as well as your personal design preferences. Of course, you also want one that opens bottles efficiently, so look for one that's known for being reliable.

Features

Electric wine bottle openers come with a host of different features. While some run on batteries, others come with an electric charger to keep them powered up. Some are equipped with foil cutters, and others come with various wine paraphernalia, including vacuum pumps, stoppers, and aerating pourers. Think about what features are important to you, as well as what's feasible for your budget.

Ease of use

Some electric wine bottle openers will have your vino flowing with just the touch of a button, while others take a bit more finesse. Be sure to consider how heavy an opener is, plus how comfortable it is to use—especially if you find yourself uncorking bottles frequently.

FAQs

How do you use an electric wine opener?

For most electric wine openers, you place the opener over the top of the bottle, and while holding the base of the wine with your other hand, press the upper switch (or button) on the electric corkscrew. The corkscrew goes into the bottle, takes out the cork, and your wine is ready to drink.

How long is wine good after opening?

A wine is good for about three to four days after opening. If you put it in the refrigerator, it may last an extra day or two.

How do you remove a cork from an electric wine opener?

The button you used to take the cork out of the bottle is usually in two parts—push the lower part. The corkscrew will "untwist" the cork and release it. Et Voila!
