This Kaiser has really gone downhill since my last review. I had an appointment for my Pap in 2015 and it took 45 minutes of me waiting in the exam room before I was seen (15 minutes in the waiting room). Today, I had an appointment with my PCP and again, it took 15 minutes in the waiting room, and another 25 minutes in the exam room. Being that I had a meeting to get to, I used the call button to which my doctor came in after immediately looked extremely rushed and frazzled. I saw her for all of two minutes after she wrote me a prescription for a topical ointment for a rash on my face thats been persistent for a month. I scheduled another appointment there upon check-in and their earliest they had was July 30th. Not sure if they are understaffed here or if my PCP is at her max capacity of patients, but something needs to be done or I will definitely be looking for a new primary.

Hi Ariel, thank you for sharing your great experience at our Point Loma facility.
Nov 25, 2014Previous reviewI'm very pleased with my primary care physician and this location. Parking and check-in were extremely easy. I saw my doctor with only a two minute wait. Dr. Shaw is really personable and sweet. She seems very holistic, which I absolutely appreciate. This was my first time at any Kaiser location, so I'm glad it was a positive one. Facilities were clean and nice.

Had an appt at 10am. Showed up at 9:45am. Left at noon after sitting in a waiting room watching countless people who came after me get called in. All I wanted was a quick check up. Never again. My first and last time with Kaiser. Once my Ins. options renew I am going back to Sharp.

I absolutely love this Kaiser location and it's services. However, when I was there today I was forced to use the kiosk instead of talking to an actual person. I really hate automation with things like this. I would rather wait in line. I asked the lady who was next to the kiosk if Kaiser was going towards automation and less customer service and then she said, "I am your customer service. I am training you to use this." Like I said, I would much rather have interactions with the front desk lady.

I left a bad review regarding communication and how there are communication breakdowns between the Doctor & Patient vs Dr and their Rn staff. This led to many RX being filled not in time. However, my Doctor went above and beyond and personally answered my emails & admitted that I had "worst luck", but after working with him and his staff everything is solid and communication went from none to great!
Oct 15, 2015Previous reviewWorst communication and rudest staff even by Kaiser standards. I take other medications with strict regulations and have to problems with communicating with my doctors or they're staffs. However this Dr diagnosed me with ADHD and prescribed adderall xr&ir. It's been over a year and they STIlL can't get it right. They ask:"what works best for YOU?" And I give a simple answer and my quantities remain the same. This was the 3rd time, and I said if you keep the quantity the same then I need a refill every ***12weeks*** and Not 100 days. Instead of figuring out what my actual dosage was I was instructed to "just email" the dr. So when 84 days came around everything was "forgotten" and for the 3rd time I have a LVN telling me that I needed to take exact ally what "label" said and which made me feel like some drug seeker, although the doctor verbally asked me to find out what works by trying different combination to take my Rx, and then email him with what was "effective", which I did. So after hours and days of stressful phone calls we've gone nowhere if not backwards. And not lying, there's been a "clerical" error every time I was written an RX too! So on top of that the dr altered my Rx to a less effective method and taking more mg of adderall from which I requested. He got the XR and IR backwards!!!! It's so fucking simple and yet nobody admits the possibility of an honest mistake on their end. So this is my proof and way of holding Kaiser accountable and to not put months in between a patient and doctor for an appointment that should be asap.

For healthcare, this is EXACTLY what you want. Did a physical on a Friday afternoon. Got my consultation, blood work, shots, prescription - all in the same place and got EVERYTHING done in about 90 mins.
This is what good health care looks like.Business owner information

The pharmacy is awful. Liz told the other pharmacists not to ignore my order for 20 minutes. It embed up taking them 30 minutes to fill my simple prescription. Throughout the entire time, Liz complained about everything within ear shot and directly to of all of the customers.

I don't normally rate anything other than food establishments, but this Kaiser location merits a quick review due to my experience there a couple of hours ago. This morning, I ate it on my bicycle shooting underneath the 5 into Little Italy. I tried to make a quick left onto the first one way there (the one right before India) and I clipped some concrete. Basically yard-saled all my shit.
Anyways, among the multitude of scrapes, bruises, and cuts, I had a huge laceration on my left elbow that bled like a mutha. Being paranoid about infection, I called up Kaiser wondering if I should go see my doc and they asked a bunch of questions including when I'd last had a tetanus shot. Shit, tetanus? Really? I hadn't even though of that. Next thing I knew (after being told I probably didn't need to see a physician), I went into the nurses' clinic at Kaiser to get my gash treated and I needed a tetanus shot.
Yes, parking was easy and the waiting room had decent material including Bon Appetit, Newsweek, and People. But this place stands out because of two people I encountered at Kaiser today. Unfortunately, I never got their names. However, the first woman worked at the front desk around 1:45 pm; she was super cordial, quick, and efficient. Yet what most stood out was when she asked about the tattoo I had on my left forearm, which is part of a poem I wrote for my father when he passed. I'm always more than happy to read/explain the poem since my dad was awesome, so I loved that she took an interest and opened up to me about her father having recently passed. Whatever your name is, you were awesome to talk with today. A real service professional!
The second woman, the nurse, was super friendly as well. Answered all of my questions, alleviated a lot of my fears, gave me the shot nice and quick and painless. She redressed the wound, bandaged it, and, to top it off, gave me a weeks worth of medical supplies that are WAY better than the bandages I was using. I mean, she wrapped up this wound so good, give me a cotton elbow sleeve and everything. I left feeling like an injured, professional athlete.
All in all, a great experience. And I paid nothing! The cherry on top of my (bloody) sundae!
Final note: Thank God I wore my helmet! Seriously, people who ride their bikes without a helmet in a fast paced environment will need more than a tetanus shot, bandages, and Neosporin. They'll need like, say, I don't know, full-scale hospice. Do yourself a favor, get over not looking cool, and wear a helmet. That's my diatribe for the day. - George D.San Diego, CA02222Sep 21, 2018
It has been almost three years since I transferred from Northern California Kaiser system to Southern California. Since moving, I have been with Dr. Tenenbaum at the Point Loma Kaiser. My first impression of the building was not good as there are strange barriers forcing you to walk all around the front area to get in and the access to the second floor seems to require a ride in an elevator. However, the building is currently under renovation. Overall, I am so pleased to say that my confidence in Kaiser has been significantly elevated since obtaining the services of my primary care doctor DR Tenenbaum. He Is highly knowledgeable, patient, listens attentively and is able to take large amounts of disjointed information (I am not the best medical historian and I talk very fast) to come up with an instant plan to move forward on my problems. He has always been respectful and sincere and I have absolute trust in him. He has a happy yet understated personality and although I tend to avoid going to any doctor unless necessary, I actually enjoy seeing this one! The staff go above and beyond and are very friendly making me feel welcome every time I go. Overall, I am totally delighted with my Kaiser membership, the online access to my records, and the mail order pharmacy are fantastic. The member services number is quickly answered by a friendly knowledgeable person in just a few short rings. Some of my friends keep telling me to change my HMO to Scripps..but I am not about to give up a great MD for an unknown....so I went to an appointment at SCRIPPS to see what it was like. I cannot believe how ugly their offices are and how depressed the workforce seems. Watching my friend jump through hoops for 6 weeks trying to get approved for physical therapy confirmed to me that moving my insurance would be an extremely bad idea. No person or organization is perfect but DR. TENENBAUM & KAISER are pretty darn close!
