Jared Goff went through an extensive throwing session Monday morning and was a limited participant in afternoon practice, leaving the door open for him to play in the Detroit Lions' Thanksgiving game Thursday against the Chicago Bears.

"He felt better today, so we’re going to see where he can go," Campbell said Monday evening. "He gave a couple walk-through reps and Tim (Boyle is) still preparing so we’ll see where we’re at."

Boyle made his first career start in Sunday's 13-10 loss to the Cleveland Browns, completing 15 of 23 passes for 77 yards with two interceptions.

Campbell said after the game Goff, who strained his oblique in a Week 10 tie with the Pittsburgh Steelers, would regain the starting job once healthy.

Goff did not practice last week and threw only lightly before Sunday's game. On Monday, he took part in drills that simulated throws from the pocket, throws while moving in both directions and deep passes.

"We weren’t just playing catch like out in the backyard since it’s Thanksgiving week," Campbell said. "We tested him. It wasn’t like, we didn’t go 40 plays or 50 throws, but yet it was enough to see how he felt, did he have some whip on the ball, what was his comfort level and it was enough to give him some reps today for sure."

Goff, acquired in a January trade with the Los Angeles Rams, has had a disappointing first season in Detroit.

He has completed 66.1% of his passes this fall, but is averaging 234.3 yards per game - his lowest total since his rookie season - with 10 turnovers and is last in the NFL in air yards per completion and attempt.

The Lions (0-9-1) are the only winless team in the NFL.

Boyle called his first start "an incredible experience," but said "at the end of the day, didn't play well enough to win and that'll ultimately falls on me."

Along with Goff, who is slated to throw again Tuesday, running back Jermar Jefferson (knee/ankle) and receiver Trinity Benson (knee) were listed as limited on the Lions' estimated practice report Monday.

Trey Flowers (knee), Da'Shawn Hand (groin), Halapoulivaati Vaitai (concussion), Matt Nelson (ankle) and A.J. Parker (ankle) were listed as non-participants on Monday's practice report. Hand, Vaitai and Parker left the Browns game with injuries, while Flowers and Nelson could miss their second straight games this week.

The Bears (3-7) also are dealing with injuries at quarterback. Rookie Justin Fields (ribs) did not practice Monday. Andy Dalton could start Thursday in his place.
