Hulu’s hit drama series came to a show-stopping end after June Osborne (played Elisabeth Moss) finally got the revenge she deeply desired. However, a major spoiler reveals that she may have to go into hiding in the next season of The Handmaid’s Tale.

In this season of The Handmaid’s Tale, fans watched as June finally escaped Gilead and became a free woman in Canada.

After being forced to become a Handmaid and endure the physical, sexual, and emotional abuse of the Gileadean state, June was reunited with her family after seven years.

In episode eight titled Testimony, June faced her abuser's Commander Fred Waterford (Joseph Fiennes) and his wife Serena Joy Waterford (Yvonne Strahovski) in court where she detailed her trauma in a witness statement.

In the next episode, government representative Mark Tuello (Sam Jaeger) revealed to June that all the charges against Fred were dropped after he agreed to share inside information about Gilead in exchange for immunity.

June understandably became enraged, chased after Tuello and shouted: “That man is a f***ing rapist.”

In the season finale, viewers watched as June struggled to come to terms with the fact her rapist would soon gain immunity and live as a free man.

In another scene, Fred and a pregnant Serena were both planning his life in Geneva and how he would also come to free his wife who was also in custody for establishing Gilead.

However, in a major twist, Fred was about to meet his demise at the hands of the Handmaids he abused, all led by June.

After leaving custody, Fred thought he was about to be escorted to the airport when Tuello revealed to him that he had been intercepted by the International Criminal Court and was going to face trial back in Gilead.

This was bad news for Fred because as he had agreed to release inside information about Gilead, he was going to be forced to face the other Commanders where he would indefinitely be punished with death, bearing the brunt of the laws he created.

In an unexpected turn of events, Fred was transported to the border where Commander Nick Blaine, his former driver, drove him to No Mans Land.

There June emerged from the darkness where she presented Fred with the option of a key or gun.

Fred refused to make a choice so June blew a whistle and a ton of former Handmaids appeared and surrounded Fred, June unchained Fred and gave him seconds to run for his life before they all chased him and beat him to death.

After being the ringleader and orchestrator of Fred’s brutal murder, showrunner Bruce Miller revealed that June may have to go into hiding in the upcoming season of The Handmaid’s Tale.

In an interview with Variety, Bruce was asked about the final scene where June had returned home, covered in blood and was cuddling her baby Nichole telling her that she had to go.

When questioned about potential consequences he answered: “I very much want it to be her choice, not consequences.

“Because once it’s consequences, it’s just her dealing with those consequences, and of course, there will be that down the line, but right now, there’s no crime.

“Nobody has any idea what happened. Fred’s gone; he was traded.”

Earlier in the episode, June and Tuello had met up with Commander Joseph Lawrence (Bradley Whitford) and they agreed to trade Fred for the freedom of 22 women who were part of the resistance in Gilead.

In the final scene of The Handmaid’s Tale fans saw Fred’s headless corpse hung from the same wall, where he sentenced many women to death.

Now that June has got her sweet revenge and brutally murdered her abuser, fans will have to wait and see what her fate will be in season five.

The Handmaid’s Tale is available to stream on Hulu
