With touches of canasta, rummy, and poker, this card game could easily become a Friday-night family favorite. The object of the game is to get a "sequence," meaning a row of five poker-like chips on the playing mat. The vinyl mat itself (approximately 28 by 32 inches) shows rows of face-up playing cards. Players place their "crowning" chips on top of the card pictures, and can set up sequences by using careful strategizing and knowing which Sequence cards to keep and discard. Since forethought, luck, and back-up plans are the keys to winning this game, it is probably too sophisticated for children under 7 years old. (But young ones can team up with adults.)     Sequence is a fun game but when we last played, it was hard to read the cards on the board due to the small size. A friend had this large 27x32 matt and it was fantastic. Easy to read from across the table. No more standing up or asking what that card is when pointing. The game goes much quicker. Here's a tip: when you first get it, unroll the matt and roll up in opposite direction and put back in the tube to keep the edges from curling up. It will also counteract the bend from most of the mat so it lays mostly flat next time. If you like sequence then this is the best way to play for everyone.
