West New York man charged in fatal Bergen County crash

A 40-year-old North Bergen man died in an early morning crash in Fairview Thursday, the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office said.

Jose Santos was a passenger in a 2017 Honda Civic that was being driven by Jose Francisco-Garcia, 26, of West New York, when it crashed into a utility pole at 1:30 a.m. in front of 1 Broad Avenue, on the Fairview-North Bergen border, Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella said.

Francisco-Garcia, who suffered minor injuries, was charged with one count of vehicular homicide, DWI, reckless driving and failure To maintain lane after an investigation by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office under the direction of Chief Robert Anzilotti and the Fairview Police Department under the direction of Chief Martin Kahn.

Francisco-Garcia is scheduled to make his first appearance in Central Judicial Processing Court in Hackensack on Monday, March 30, 2020.
