The Purdue Fort Wayne Mastodons will travel to UW-Milwaukee Panther Arena to take on the Milwaukee Panthers this Friday night in College Basketball action.
The Purdue Fort Wayne Mastodons won their 2nd straight game and improved to 4-5 on the season after defeating the UIC Flames, 88-55, this past Saturday. Purdue Fort Wayne was incredible on the defensive end against UIC and had no trouble getting the victory after taking a 52-29 lead with 16:24 left in regulation. Purdue Fort Wayne shot 49.2% from the field and 61.1% from beyond the arc while holding UIC to just 39.3% shooting from the field and 25.0% from beyond the arc. Purdue Fort Wayne outrebounded UIC by a 38-25 margin and forced 21 turnovers in the victory. Leading the way for the Mastodons was Jarred Godfrey who had 16 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists, & 2 steals.
On the season, Purdue Fort Wayne is averaging 78.1 ppg on 51.0% shooting from the field. The Mastodons are averaging 8.7 three-pointers per game on 42.4% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Purdue Fort Wayne has been led by Jarred Godfrey (18.2 ppg, 4.8 rpg, 2.6 apg, 1.9 spg), Jalon Pipkins (12.2 ppg, 1.8 rpg, 3.2 apg, 1.7 spg), Bobby Planutis (10.0 ppg, 3.2 rpg, 1.2 apg), & Demetric Horton (9.8 ppg, 2.6 rpg, 2.1 apg, 1.7 spg).
Defensively, Purdue Fort Wayne is allowing their opponents to average 76.4 ppg on 46.0% shooting from the field. The Mastodons have a rebound margin of 1.3 and a turnover margin of -3.2.
The Milwaukee Panthers won their 2nd straight game and improved to 5-2 on the season after defeating the IUPUI Jaguars, 71-63, this past Saturday. Milwaukee was outstanding on the offensive end against IUPUI and was able to take the lead for good after a DeAndre Gholston jumper gave Milwaukee a 58-57 lead with 6:48 left in regulation. Milwaukee shot 55.8% from the field and 28.6% from beyond the arc while IUPUI shot 40.7% from the field and 40.0% from beyond the arc. Milwaukee outrebounded IUPUI by a 33-28 margin and forced 15 turnovers in the victory. Leading the way for the Panthers was Te’Jon Lucas who had 15 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists, & 1 steal.
On the season, Milwaukee is averaging 73.9 ppg on 45.5% shooting from the field. The Panthers are averaging 7.6 three-pointers per game on 35.3% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Milwaukee has been led by Te’Jon Lucas (13.7 ppg, 4.7 rpg, 6.0 apg, 1.1 spg), DeAndre Gholston (12.9 ppg, 5.1 rpg, 1.1 spg), Josh Thomas (10.3 ppg, 4.6 rpg, 2.0 apg, 1.0 spg), & Grant Coleman (7.6 ppg, 3.3 rpg).
Defensively, Milwaukee is holding their opponents to an average of 66.6 ppg on 42.2% shooting from the field. The Panthers have a rebound margin of 2.1 and a turnover margin of 0.9.
The Mastodons are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games overall and 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games vs. a team with a winning straight up record. The Panthers are 6-1 ATS in their last 7 games overall, however, are just 4-10 ATS in their last 14 home games.
Milwaukee was able to pick up a couple of nice wins against IUPUI, however, despite their winning record, I just don’t think the Panthers team is as good defensively as their currently statistics might say. Purdue Fort Wayne can struggle defensively, however, their offense is very good as they come into this game ranked 75th in scoring offense, 11th in FG%, & 4th in 3P-FG% and as I think the Mastodons will be able to keep this one close, I think the play here is to take Purdue Fort Wayne and the points.
Brett’s Pick IPFW Mastodons +4
