Johnny Depp Mixes Absinthe Drip From Hell Chasing Jack The Ripper

This little round side table is where Scotland Yard inspector Frederick Abberline mixes up absinthe cocktails in the movie From Hell. Johnny Depp plays the determined police detective chasing down the killer in the Jack the Ripper murders who dreams visions of the crimes after drinking a few of these prophetic potions.

From Hell didn’t make it onto the poster of cocktails and drinks as movies representing the absinthe drip or vice versa, the 2001 film Moulin Rouge! took that honor and for good reason. This animated gif shows a scene from the murder mystery where Johnny Depp is stirring up the wormwood, anise and fennel liquor that is affectionately known as the green fairy.

What’s not shown is that this depressing home bar from hell sits next to the bathtub in the movie and is where detective Abberline slips into his psychic hallucinations. The fact that these concoctions were laced with Laudanum may have played a role in these mind games.

Better stick with Moulin Rouge or famous artists known for enjoying absinthe as sources for party theme ideas instead.
