John has much to celebrate during his pre-season holiday, as it takes place shortly after he helped Aston Villa avoid relegation from the Premier League.
He jetted off to Portugal despite the country remaining on the British government's quarantine 'red list' - meaning arrivals must isolate for 14-days when they return.
The FCO advises against all non-essential travel the Portuguese mainland.
But regulations didn't stop the sportsman, who was in understandably high spirits as he and his wife set off on their latest overseas holiday.
Taking to their respective Instagram accounts, the couple were pictured raising their glasses while settling into a pair of comfortable leather seats close to the jet’s cockpit.

The former England captain, who is currently assistant to Dean Smith has made no secret of wanting to branch out and is attracted to the potential of the south-west England club.
John, however, is not alone in being excited about the idea of moving to Ashton Gate and Phil Neville, who will leave his post as England's women manager as soon as the FA find a replacement, is also eager to be considered after initial contact with the Championship club.
