Paul Choi, a.k.a "Retain", answered my ad to design a market my website. I gave him a small fee upfront to start the project. I was then going to pay Paul $200 a month for 6 months while he marketed my website. Within a  a week, he said he had a deal for me. I thought he already lined up a sponsor for me. He said he didn't have a car and needed money now so he could purchase one in order to drive to his new job. Paul said he would forgo the 6 month payment,$1,200, and still work on my project if I send him $200 right now. I did not send him the money, but still have not received my depsoit. I'm still looking for his physical address to take him to court. I found 2 of his Facebook profiles. Looks as though he's runnning a new scam involving dental software.

Fake Name?

AUTHOR: Paul - ()

POSTED: Saturday, October 12, 2013

The funny thing about this accusation is, if you look at the Statement of Work we both signed, there is my name written clearly.

If you are referring to the name of my email address, it is a combination of my website.  In fact, I thought your last name was March for the longest time because thats the name of your email.  However, I have enough intelligence to understand this may have been a short name for youself.

Portfolio or not you went forward with this project.

Make no mistake about it.  The goal we had was far beyond just a website.  It included your branding and youtube channel creation.  When I realized you could not produce quality content, and when it was obvious it was not gonna go anywhere, I called it off.

Your anger stems from your own self.

POSTED: Wednesday, September 11, 2013

I would say it says alot about a person who changes his last name 3 times, gives a false address, changes his phone number multiple times, and when asked to provide me a porforlio of his work could not provide me with even one example... though he's been in the business for 15 years.

Becoming Childish

AUTHOR: Paul - ()

POSTED: Monday, September 09, 2013

First off, the address is to my office.  It is an office building.  Yes is a body shop and also a furnature store on the bottom level.  What is your point?

Secondly, I am in the dental industry and have been for the last 4 years.  I have more than 30 Dentists that can write me an outstanding character review.

What you fail to point out to everyone you are trying to communicate to is that you paid for two things here.  A strategy to market a business you wanted to do and your current exercise camp and to build a website.  The fact is we created TWO versions of the website but YOU could not provide what we felt was QUALITY content such as pictures and videos.  It was OBVIOUS that we did not want to be associated with your business at that point.  I find it very beneficial that I even offered you a full refund.  You demanding a refund after the fact is why you are doing all this defamation.

But keep going.  I will reply to your fake facebook pages with a website showcasing everything we talked about including the othe rproject you wanted me to develop which I wanted no part of.

Evidence for his scam

AUTHOR: Tony - ()

POSTED: Wednesday, August 21, 2013

I have posted my texted mesages with Paul. At the time, he was using the number 202-505-0900. I asked for a refund, which he agreed to pay, on May 7th 2013. My last text asking for my refund, before he changed his number to 703-850-4500, was om June 6th. Notice one of my first text message,I asked for an address to send him my deposit. After giving me the address, he said he'd rather meet me and pick it up. The address he gave me was to a body shop! He did not work there nor did anyone at the shop know Paul.

Paul's latest scam is dental software.  I tricked Paul by calling him on another phone and disguised my voice while posing as a dentist. I explained I needed new dental software for my new office. On August 10th, 3 months after I asked for my refund, I got Paul to meet me at a grocery store that had a little cafe so we could discuss doing business. When I walked up to Paul, I was able to take 3 photos of him before he knew what was happening. Demanded my money back, which he said did not have. Paul seem to find the $400 he owed me as I became more and more irate and loud.

I believe the evidence I've provided shows he had no intensions of refunding my money. I have more text messages, but I believe the ones Ive posted are sufficient. His real name is Paul Choi, but goes by Paul Retain. He had since changed his facebook page to Paul Engager. He claims he doesn't scam people, yet he doesn't use his real last name and changes his fake name twice. My advice is DO NOTPAY HIM ANY MONEY UPFRONT!

*****There is another scam report on Paul Choi. Just google " Choi Paul Ham" and it will pop up as ripoff report/Choi Paul Ham.

**** Unable to post my text messages or photos on here. However, I set up a alias Facebook Page where you can see the text messages and Paul himself.

In The End

AUTHOR: Paul - ()

POSTED: Wednesday, August 21, 2013

I responded to an ad I read on craigslist which was submitted by Tony Marchegiani.  During our initial phone meeting, Tony expressed that he wanted a website created for his personal training business and also a youtube channel to market a concept of fitness for people over the age of 40.  Since I had experience with this type of marketing I sent Tony a proposal which I thought was more then a fair deal.  For $200 I would create a website for his personal training business and for another $200 I would create a website for his "older age fitness" where he would display a before and after type of fitness model.  I felt that the strategic layout for this effort to be successful was without a doubt a value that I brought to this project for the fee that I asked.  Since I branched off on my own to work independently this year and did not have many examples of work, I told Tony that if he is not satisfied with the effort, I would refund his money 100%.

I created a wireframe for his 1st website and he was not pleased with it.   I went ahead and created a new website which he did approve or initially.  I had asked Tony for some content so we can start to fill the website.  What I got in return was content I felt was not up to quality.  Pictures he provided were poorly scanned and grainy also the videos he sent me where just the same pics looped with music.  This is where I realized I most likely would not be able to work with this person.  For the fee which I admit was somethign I offered, the time and energy to create something of quality was not worth it anymore because the communication became difficult.

I expressed I wanted to terminate our project together.

What I do not appreciate is the accusations.  I am willing to understand that people may not have the same vision for a website and marketing but isnt that why I was hired?  Moreover, a money back guarantee on top?  How does that equate to a scam?

The only thing I have learned from this is to be careful which clients you find on craigslist.  If you have a client that posts an ad on the free 'gig" section, it tells a lot about that business person.
