Former Seminole Tax Collector Joel Greenberg accused of making fake driver's licenses
One service the tax collector's office does in Seminole County is issue new driver's licenses.
They take your old ID and shred it, but the former tax collector allegedly used surrendered IDs to make fake licenses for himself.
Federal prosecutors filed an indictment Wednesday that adds new charges in the case against Joel Greenberg.
The document says the former tax collector "used the surrendered driver licenses that he had taken to cause fake driver licenses to be produced that had his photograph but the personal information of the victims whose driver licenses he had taken."
The court documents say he made fraudulent Florida and Puerto Rico licenses sometime between September 2018 and this past June.
Greenberg is now facing production of false IDs and aggravated identity theft charges.
A spokesperson for the Seminole County Tax Collector's Office said they just found out about these allegations Thursday night and will provide a response soon.
Greenberg declined to comment on charges.
The new accusations are added to a stalking case that federal prosecutors are working on.
Greenberg allegedly mailed fake letters to a school and made a false Twitter account to damage a political opponent.
Indictments say Greenberg pretended the letters were sent by a "very concerned student" who had information that his opponent had engaged in sexual misconduct with a student.
Greenberg resigned in late June following the stalking allegations. He pleaded not guilty in that case.
