Jimmy Briand completes move to join Guingamp from Hannover

France international winger Jimmy Briand has completed his move to Guingamp from Hannover, the Ligue 1 club have announced.

Guingamp revealed on Friday that an agreement had been reached to bring the 29-year-old former Lyon and Rennes midfielder to the Stade du Roudourou and Briand was officially unveiled as a Guingamp player on Monday morning.

Briand has signed a two-year contract with the Brittany club and returns to France after a single season in the Bundesliga - where he made 29 appearances for Michael Frontzeck's side.

"Jimmy is a fighter, a winner, with many values. An exemplary player in his attitude," Guingamp president Bertrand Desplat was quoted as saying on the club's official Twitter feed.

Briand added: "The coach [Jocelyn Gourvennec] has shown me his confidence and desire to play me in the centre. Knowing that he knows me and he wanted me was decisive in my choice."

Gourvennec is pleased to have added a player of Briand's calibre to his squad ahead of the new league season, which Guingamp begin on Saturday with a trip to Nantes.

"Recruiting Jimmy Briand is good news," he said. "Wherever he plays, he is always motivated "
