High life and the quiet life: Kate Winslet and her ex 'are now good friends'
As break-ups go, his split with Kate Winslet was not the most amicable. But seven years later it seems the star's ex-husband is pretty happy with the way things have turned out.
Jim Threapleton says he's now good friends with Miss Winslet and is living a life of quiet suburban happiness in North London with his new wife, special needs teacher Julie Vuorinen.
Indeed, the couple, who met in a local pub three years ago, are expecting a baby in the spring.
No bad feelings: Jim Threapleton, Kate Winslett's ex-husband, with his pregnant wife Julie
While Miss Winslet lives in a New York apartment with her husband – multimillionaire film director Sam Mendes – he lives in a modest end-of-terrace house in Queen's Park. And while Miss Winslet, 33, is at home on the red-carpet under the flash of photographer's bulbs, her ex-husband still squirms at the idea of being in the spotlight.
Miss Vuorinen said: 'Jim and I are very happy. I'm expecting a child, but it will be a few months yet.
'We haven't found out the sex of the baby, but everything is fine and this is such an exciting time for us. We are very happy and everything is going great .'
Threapleton flies to New York once a month to spend time with Mia, his daughter from his marriage to Miss Winslet.

He said his ex-wife knows about the pregnancy, and is 'delighted' for the couple. He added that he is fond of Mendes. 'He is a fantastic person to be in Mia's life,' he said.
'Sam and I went out for a few beers together very early on to make sure there was no stand-offishness. No one wanted a situation where I'd pitch up in a car and honk the horn and wait for Mia to be delivered.
'There was a very amiable attempt to find a new future for all of us, which isn't an easy thing to do, but I'm proud of what Kate has done with Mia and what we do collectively.
'I think the assumption was that there'd be vitriol between Kate and me for years. But there isn't, and there hasn't been. It's an evolution, but I think we've got to that good stage of friendship.'
Miss Winslet and Threapleton, 34, a film director, divorced in 2001. They had met soon after her triumph in the 1997 blockbuster Titanic. Miss Winslet called him her 'glorious boy'.
She married the down-to-earth Yorkshireman in a simple ceremony in 1998, followed by bangers and mash and Bakewell tart at the local pub. Their daughter is now eight. But their marriage ended in divorce, with Miss Winslet implying he had been unable to deal with her stardom. She called the marriage 'a **** up'.
The actress moved on to start dating Mendes, a successful director, and after a passionate romance, they married in 2003. Their son, Joe, was born the same year, and the family moved to New York in late 2005.
In comparison to Mendes' big-budget productions, Threapleton took six years to make a 'no-budget' movie called Extraordinary Rendition, released last year, about a politics teacher being kidnapped and tortured.
Miss Winslet appeared on the red carpet earlier this week with co-star Leonardo DiCaprio at the Los Angeles premiere of Mendes' latest movie, Revolutionary Road.
