James M. Byrnes
August 5th, 1957 – June 14th, 2021
James M. Byrnes, 63, of Randolph and OFD, passed away suddenly. He was the beloved husband and
best friend of Beth O'Toole for 26 years.
Jimmy was an avid golfer. His bucket list goal was to play golf in every state. He and Beth had played in
41 states and 7 countries; and they made sure to bring their clubs wherever they went. Jimmy was
known for his love of music and dance. His love of dancing made him the life of every party. He was
always the first on the dance floor and got everyone to join in. Jimmy loved to read; he read all types of
books from contemporary political to historical fiction. His love of movies enabled him to reference
actor's names and roles and often led to quotation of movie dialogue during conversation with family
and friends.
Jimmy loved meeting new people and he made friends wherever he went. He had a gift of making
people feel comfortable as if they were lifelong friends.
As a member of the John P McKeon Post, Dorchester, Jimmy was involved in the golf, pool and bowling
leagues. He was the best competitor out there despite not always finishing at the top.
Jimmy was predeceased by his parents, James and Hazel Byrnes and brother Patrick, all of Dorchester.
He leaves behind his sisters, Debbie Finnerty of Quincy, Dianna Byrnes and her wife Erica Petersen of
Brockton, his brother Stephen and his wife Robin of Dorchester. He also leaves behind his favorite
mother-in -law, Mrs. Eugene O'Toole of Haverhill, MA, his sister and brother-in -law Nick Forgione and
Lynn O'Toole of Haverhill and sister-in-law Jean O'Toole of Summit NJ., as well as his cherished nieces
and nephews.
All services will be private. A celebration in his memory will be held August 7th, at the John P McKeon
Post, just as Jimmy would have wanted. Bring a story to tell, or a memory to share. Further details will
follow as needed.
