Just wanted to provide a fleet update for B6 for 2022. I’m not sure of what planes will be delivered this year so this list will only cover the active fleet.

E190: 60 total, all active
30 leased
30 owned-staying past 2025 no set date for retirement
(Config. 16EMS, 84Y = 100)

A220: 8 total, all active
(Config. 30EMS 110Y = 140)

A320: 130 total, all active
(Config. 42EMS 108Y or 42EMS 120Y = 150/162)
119 configured with 162Y remaining 11 will not be getting the refit and expected to leave the fleet.

A321(HD)-CEO 28, all active
(Config. 42EMS 158Y = 200)

A32S(LD)-CEO 35, all active
(Config. 16J 40EMS 103Y = 159)

A3N1(HD)-NEO 16, all active
(Config. 42EMS 158Y = 200)

A3NS(LD)-NEO 2, all active
(Config. 2F 14J 42EMS 102Y = 160)

A3NL(TA)-NEO 3, all active
(Config. 2F 22J 24EMS 90Y = 138)

Total: 282
190: 60
220: 8
320: 130
321: 84

Based on the latest 10-Q report http://otp.investis.com/clients/us/jetb ... F&hasPdf=1, here is the current delivery schedule.

2022 3 A321LR + 9 A220
2023 11 A321NEO + 18 A220
2024 13 A321NEO + 22 A220
2025 11 A321NEO + 12 A220
2026 12 A321NEO + 1 A220
2027 14 A321NEO

They really deferred a lot of A321NEOs to 2025 to 2027 timeframe back in 2020. I'm not sure the A321LR/XLR, A321LD and all core A321NEO breakdowns from 2023 to 2027. Should be 20 A321LR/XLR during that time frame.

I'd assume that they have to exercise some kind of A220 options for the 2025 to 2027 timeframe. And they need more A321NEO delivery in the 2022 to 2025 timeframe.

IIRC, the core A321s are getting the balloon tails like the core NEOs. Tails 905 and 907 were mentioned in the 2021 thread.

Blerg wrote:So in the end will they replace the Embraers with the A220?

Short answer yes. Long answer…that’s what was originally briefed. But 30 E190s are sticking around for an unknown amount of time. Realistically the 70 total 220s that exist and that are coming in the next 5 years will replace some 190 capacity as well as some 320 capacity. The 30 remaining 190s will likely still be used on the NYC-BOS-DCA and BUF/SYR/ROC/PWM/BTV/MVY/ACK type of routes. Maybe some FL/carib stuff as well. The longer stuff that the 190 does (stuff like IAH/DFW/MSY/AUS) will likely go to the 220 (maybe 320 where it makes sense). Who knows what will happen longer term. I don’t see the 30 190s going away before 2030 though. Eventually, maybe. But the landscape will change in this industry big time in the next 5-10 years, and my guess is they don’t make any long term retirement plans for the owned 190S until the future is a bit more clear. The efficiencies of the 220 over the 190 don’t really manifest until the stage lengths get a little longer (2 hours is what I hear a lot). At some point getting rid of a smaller subfleet of 190s might make sense, but for now an owned 190 is probably the best plane for short shuttle type flying, which is probably why there is no retirement date set for the 30 owned e190s.

Yep, E90 will be used in mostly the short range stuff. https://paxex.aero/jetblue-a220-transcon-cancun/
The Embraer fleet sees a far more dramatic shift, at least with what is currently published. Average flight distance will drop more that 25% according to the schedules.

This drop, to just over 500 miles, puts it squarely in the financial sweet spot for the type, at under two hour flight times. Breeze Airways and JetBlue founder David Neeleman highlighted

i see that number dropping even further over time as the 30 leased ones go away. I do think having just 30 E90 around is a little too small of a fleet, so I could see them leasing another 10 or so E90 or E95 of newer build. These should cost next to nothing to lease. As great as A220 is, the ownership cost probably isn't worth the incremental revenue they'd get on stuff like BOS-DCA/NYC/PHL.

Also B6 sent out a little blurb in the daily news for us that TechOps will now be focusing on “refreshing” the mint 321CEOs as well as the upcoming XLR interiors.

The mint CEOs will be getting foam seat cushions in place of the inflatable ones with that project expected to wrap up by July 2022. A phase 2 of the mint CEOs will focus on a complete face lift of new trim/finish, and a new updated IFE system to replace the live TV4 currently found.

It’s unclear if any of the refresh will make it the core 321CEOs and I would expect this new refresh of the mint CEOs to bring them more inline with the current mint NEOs, also not sure what it means by an “updated IFE” if it will be AVANT or newer programmed Live TV4.

Also interesting that they will be standardizing the tails based on fleet type, and only 5 tails will be around.

If I’d guess…

Spotlight -> A320
Balloons -> Core A321
Ribbons -> Mint a321
Streamers -> LR/XLR
Hops -> A220
????? -> E90

Tartan’s going — NOOOOOOOOOOOO‼️‼️‼️ N757ST, are they standardizing the tails due to Covid or because of more consistency in general?

Will the mint seats in the CEO’s get the same light gray vegan leather as NEO MINT when they get modified? Hopefully the media will take photos of the first Mint ✈️ done.

When finished, they expect to have five tail designs across the fleet to make it easier for the Customers and Crewmembers to identify the plane they’re flying on.

I’d hope they switch to the new ultraleather or even fabric…no idea if it’ll be light gray. I personally dislike the light gray in the new mint—reminds me of the old worn out original jetblue interior look. But, it’s not terrible. I wish they’d have kept it black or dark gray like mint 1.0 though. I also prefer fabric over the ultraleather for long flights as well (like AA/UA have in their lie flats). I think it breaths better and stays a more consistent temperature. I still get hot even with the ultra leather in mint 2.0, but it’s way better than the old vinyl of mint 1.0.

Mint 1.5 should be a decent improvement. I’m curious if they will also change the LTV4 out from the back at the same time. May as well just go ahead and redo the entire plane. I would think having the IFE changed out up front from LTV4 would necessitate an entirely different system in the whole plane, but I don’t really know. Maybe our resident tech ops guru can shed some light.

I’d still like to see them instead just convert all the mint CEOs to all core and make the whole mint fleet NEOs. If they are spending the money to refresh mint planes already, and taking a bunch of NEOs 23-27, they could probably just buy the new NEOs in mint config and put the capital being used to refresh mint 1.0 into refresh/conversion to an all core config (with the phase 2 seat/IFE/IFC upgrades). But, they didn’t ask me, and they have the spreadsheets with the CapEx numbers. I just have a bunch of wishful thinking.

Also notable is there will be no green in any of the airbus standard tailfins. I would have thought prism would be retained since every 321CEO has worn it since new until the recent two got switched to balloons. But, I like those 4. Curious what the enduring E190 tail will be…

Mint 1.1 (my term, which is just foam seat cushions replacing the airbags) will be done by July. Mint 1.5 (also my term) has no stated timeline that I saw. No idea what it will entail, other than a facelift of trim and finishes and new IFE.

Ha! I'll believe it when I see it. Jetblue is finding that the A220 has its own unique mission, as does the E190. They're not 1-for-1 replacements for each other. I see them keeping at least the 30 owned 190's well into the future.

Funny you asked this, because JetBlue announced in December that they will be returning to BWI this summer (currently set in June IIRC)
http://blueir.investproductions.com/inv ... -140015373
Additionally, service at Baltimore/Washington International Airport (BWI) will return in summer 2022 with up to five daily flights between Baltimore and Boston starting June 9.

I actually see them going up to 7x in the fall here. I do also expect either BWI-LAX or IAD-LAX longer term.

There was a decent buildup that eventually included 5 transcon destinations, some Florida markets, as well as JFK, and BOS. Additionally, IAD, for a time, was always mentioned as the “next crew base.” It seems that DCA became the more attractive of the two airports, and IAD was dropped in favor of DCA when slots became available. I think Mint, and maybe the A220 at least provide a possibility of another Jetblue Dulles attempt.

Since the moderator closed all of the JetBlue threads to consolidate the discussion to this one, I thought I'd update on the cabin refresh status.

N559JB arrived at SAL 1/20
N536JB arrived at SAL 1/25

N584JB is the last one left on the list for the cabin refreshes. I would imagine that once the two at SAL leave, 584 will go, and the program will wrap up at the end of March.

N559JB arrived at SAL 1/20
N536JB arrived at SAL 1/25

N584JB is the last one left on the list for the cabin refreshes. I would imagine that once the two at SAL leave, 584 will go, and the program will wrap up at the end of March.

The JetBlue Network Thread is still very much alive and well. This particular thread is just for fleet news, which appears to have been a change with all the airlines’ threads for 2022.

In regards to the tail standardization-

Yes. It is a massive bummer. In my mind it definitely gives the airlines some character and a uniqueness you don’t get anywhere else. However, keep in mind that 40 320s and a handful of 190s were *just* repainted into highrise around 2017-2020. That being said, we should have a bit of variety for a few more years to come. The 11 320s slated for retirement will also not be repainted before their time is up. However, we can soon say goodbye to tartan, blueberries, barcode, prism and others. This would explain why many of them are being repainted so frequently, sometimes prematurely. The number of spotlight tails grow each month. As the numbers go down I’ll keep track of the number of aircraft still left with those tails- I think barcode currently only has 3 A320s left with that tail.

I really wish they would paint at least one in the old stripes livery, just to honor their heritage. It’s nice seeing some of the old designs still in the companys branding however, like bubbles(ish) behind the ticket counters and windowpane on the 320 safety cards.

Will definitely be interesting to see what the 190s will be standardized into. There’s a bunch of them painted in barcode with the paint wearing off, so as soon as the first one goes in, we should know.

760 seems to have had a pretty nasty tail strike last Saturday, and is still on the ground a week later. Any word on the extent of the damage? NTSB rates it as substantial.

If I’d guess…

Spotlight -> A320
Balloons -> Core A321
Ribbons -> Mint a321
Streamers -> LR/XLR
Hops -> A220
????? -> E90

How much more variety do you want? Still have 5 different liveries plus the specials: cops, firefighters, vets, retro, teams

It’s accurate. I’m not divulging how I got it.

If B6 ever uses an A321LR on a domestic flight, would the London crew run it or regular crew? Also, would there be 4 or 5 FAs?

The special qualification applies only to the route, so it would be flown by any 320 crew. Not entirely sure about the FA situation, obviously besides the 1 per 50 seat rule. Would probably depend on the level of service, which may or may not match the London routes.

Jetblue has and does occasionally send the LRs on JFK-LAX and I’ve seen it staffed each time with 5 FAs in the back which is what they use for London. That being said 5 FAs is not a requirement for the staffing and the plane is certified to be sent out with the minimum crew of 3, even London can be sent with 3 FAs if needed.

In regards to the latest blizzard recovery to a meltdown, yet again at b6, its increasingly obvious the operations leadership team IE Johanna and whoever is just after her, I believe a gentleman by Alex Bataglia, are inept. I can't wrap my head around how they keep doing the same mistakes over and over and over again. Heard it was increase calls of workers not coming in because of the weather. Then why is it United, Delta, American didn't have that same problem with their planes scattered all over JFK taxiways? They have workers in the area as well. Seems like lame excuses and no one is buying at this point. Purely inept is all one can imagine. I don't know how this jetblue operations team don't feel utterly embarrassed. The whole industry is likely laughing at them, and laughing more to the fact how the jetblue BOD keeps this operations team going. I feel they are on thin ice. This summer, if things don't drastically change, their operations will flounder massively. And if said operations management is still at the helm and haven't drastically change the way they run the operation, thats a very bad thing for jetblue especially for the NEA.

Seems a bit harsh.
The reason United doesn't have planes scattered all over a taxiway at JFK should be obvious.
Delta hubs at JFK, true enough, but is also a massively larger airline than jetBlue, with more resilience systemwide to offer. Ditto American.
I'm no jetBlue apologist, but seriously, calling people at the top inept is rarely going to win any favors.

They are completely inept, and anything short of that recognition will not help changes to be made. JetBlue knew their operation was floundering in the good-weather weeks leading up to the storm and did not take any action to prevent these particular weaknesses from derailing the whole operation. This falls squarely on the COO and those below her in the operational chain of command.

The consensus at JB among employees, especially frontline, is they are totally unable to run the operation correctly.

However this is the fleet thread so perhaps this discussion should be moved to the other thread.

The LR has 114 core seats which equal 3 FAs, so how would that work with the addition of 24 MINT?

And when the LRs fly domestically, MINT 12A and Core 31 ABC are used for pax, right?

Thanks‼️

The airplane has 138 seats. Legally, only 3 flight attendants are needed to staff it. In actuality, that wouldn’t well at all.
