Harry Potter actor Jessie Cave has refuted tabloid reports that her brother, who was found dead next to railway tracks, was train-surfing at the time.

Music producer and actor Benjamin Haddon-Cave, 27, and his friend Patrick Bolster, 26, were discovered on train tracks between Hackney Wick and Stratford in east London in March, an inquest was told on Friday.

Jessie Cave, who played Lavender Brown in the Harry Potter films, wrote on Twitter on Saturday: “This is a message on behalf of my family – and for my brother Ben... the tabloid papers have reported inaccurately. Ben was not “train-surfing”. He was not a reckless individual.

“And, most importantly, the inquest has not yet been concluded. Thank you for your kind messages.”

Poplar Coroner’s Court heard how Haddon-Cave died of electrocution, while Bolster died from brain haemorrhage, electrocution, and thermal trauma.

Both of the young men’s families were unhappy with the court’s findings, with Haddon-Cave’s parents saying he had been wrongly portrayed as “reckless”.

A statement read to the court said: “We believe that he had been portrayed as some reckless train surfer but that could not be further from the truth.”

The inquest continues.
