Former USWNT goalie Hope Solo entering alcohol treatment program after DWI arrest
Hope Solo announced on Friday that she is going to enter an in-patient alcohol treatment program following her DWI arrest earlier this month.
The former USWNT goalie said in a statement on Twitter that she is going to enter the program in the near future, and that she’s asked the National Soccer Hall of Fame to postpone her induction ceremony by a year.

“I will be voluntarily entering an in-patient alcohol treatment program to address my challenges with alcohol,” Solo said in a statement, in part. “At this time, my energies and focus are totally directed to my health, healing and taking care of my family. I want to thank the Hall of Fame for their support and for understanding my decision.”
Solo was arrested earlier this month in North Carolina on suspicion of driving while intoxicated, resisting arrest and misdemeanor child abuse. She was arrested in a Walmart parking lot with two young children in the car with her. It’s unclear if the two children were hers, but Solo does have 2-year-old twins with her husband, former NFL player Jerramy Stevens.
The incident was the latest legal one for Solo in recent years. She was arrested in 2014 after allegedly attacking two family members. The charges were dropped, and then fully dropped in 2018 after prosecutors had them reinstated.
Solo helped lead the USWNT to their World Cup title in 2015, and she won a pair of Olympic gold medals with the squad. The 40-year-old was set to be inducted into the National Soccer Hall of Fame next month.
