FORMER VA. TEEN CHARGED IN DEATH OF CHILD IN FLA. - The Washington Post

INTERCESSION CITY, FLA., NOV. 18 -- A teenager, formerly of Arlington, who lived next door to a 4-year-old girl was charged today with killing the youngster, who disappeared Monday while playing near her house.

Jeremy Skocz, 18, was being held in the Osceola County jail in Kissimmee after detectives found Shelby Marie Cox's body in a shed adjacent to Skocz's home early this morning, according to a spokesman for the county sheriff's office.

Detectives questioned Skocz on Wednesday and Friday, and he failed two polygraph tests, the sheriff's office said in a statement.

Skocz signed a confession Friday, saying he drowned the girl in a bathtub after she walked into the bathroom while he was taking a shower. Skocz told authorities he hid her body in a closet inside his family's mobile home for days before stuffing her body into a duffel bag and moving it to the storage shed next to his home Thursday.

Deputies found the girl's body about 2 a.m. today after searching the home Skocz has shared with his father and stepmother since May, when he moved from Arlington.

Skocz told detectives he had been watching his siblings while his mother was away from home. He said he was taking a shower when the little girl walked into the bathroom.

When he tried to take the girl out of the bathroom, his towel fell off and Shelby began to cry. Skocz said he was afraid of what the other children would think. He said he put clothing over the girl's face to keep her from screaming. Then, Skocz said, he placed the child face down in a bathtub and drowned her.
