Thief steals $8K guitar by stashing it in his pants: police

A thief accused of stealing an $8,000 guitar brazenly made off with the instrument after stashing it down his pants, Canadian police said.

Cops released surveillance video Wednesday that allegedly showed the suspect concealing the electric guitar in a music store in Richmond Hill, just north of Toronto, on Dec. 20.

The unidentified man was sitting on a stool in the middle of the store when he put the neck of the guitar down his pants and hid the rest under his sweatshirt, the footage showed.

An unsuspecting woman could be seen examining guitars just feet away from him at the time.

After hiding the guitar, the suspect was filmed picking up another instrument that he strummed briefly as he glanced around the store.

Investigators with the York Regional Police said the suspect then left and fled in a vehicle being driven by another man.

The Gibson Custom Shop 60th Anniversary ’59 Les Paul Standard guitar that was stolen is worth an estimated $8,000, according to cops.

Police said the suspect accused of stashing the guitar was described as a white male in his 20s, wearing “extremely large, baggy pants,” a black coat and a Toronto Maple Leafs baseball hat.

His alleged accomplice is also a white male in his 20s or 30s. He was spotted wearing a black mask, black hoodie and sunglasses.
