The Airplane House will always have a special meaning for me even after living in the city for 15 years. I was 17 and hitch hiking to Portland in the summer of 1970. I met a guy outside of Salt Lake City on his way back from Europe. He invited me to join him and we hitched to San Francisco. We got into town late. The next morning I am sitting on the steps and guess who drives up to the house next door but Grace Slick and David Crosby. Do realize that this was my favorite band who I finally got to see just a month earlier in Minneapolis. I was in heaven and never wanted to leave. This house will forever be the real San Francisco to me.

OK so most people would walk on by but to some others there is a reason to stare at a private property that has a slight history.
This is THE Jefferson Airplane House.
Actually it is a rather beautiful building on that side of Fulton Street and looks to be well restored on the outside (the other side of Fulton is a rather large park!).
Because of my own history this was a must see and therefore deserves 5 Stars.

I worked out of this house in the early 1980's, when it was painted Black. When I worked for the Jefferson Starship and it was some of the best years and memories that my wife and I have to this day...
Their Manager, Bill Thompson (RIP) the best and everyone from the Band to the office staff were top notch and all of us worked with a passion and desire to make the Band the best that they could be within the framework of the music business at that time, MTV was a new commodity...

This imposing mansion with a well maintained garden and facade behind its similarly pristine front gate and railings must look to those who don't know just like any other middle class home in San Francisco. There's no plaque on the walls and unless you know the current occupants you can't gain admittance but 2400 Fulton Street (just opposite the Golden Gate Park entrance) was once home to Grace Slick and her bandmates from Jefferson Airplane. If that house's walls could talk they'd certainly have some tales to tell. It's a bit of a hike up here from the downtown but worth a stop and a brief ponder if you're heading for the Golden Gate Park or if you've been to Alamo Square.

from the haight ashbury intersection, anywhere from 2 blocks to ~1mile, i visited the homes walking, once frequented by jefferson airplane, grateful dead, jimi hendrix, janis joplin. talk of a rock and roll rush, rock and roll history, it was an iconic moment for me. they are just homes and yet it was powerful energy.
