Why isn't the iphone x camera full screen?
For example like how it is on snap chat. Seems like such a waste of space. It should be the full screen instead of a little square. What is wrong with these guys?
Well the app takes 4:3 photos like every normal camera.
So headphone jack is apparently old and 4:3 is fresh and cool?
4:3 is typical aspect ratio for still photos in the typical 5x7 and 8x10 sizes you find in portfolios and frames, 1:1 is even more so for art (square). 16:9 is a traditionally cinematic/video ratio that can certainly work for photographers but not commonly cropped that way.
Orly look at all these people who are still printing photos and framing them. There's literally dozens of them. Meanwhile everyone on earth has a widescreen monitor. Even the phone itself is widescreen.
Complain to the companies developing the camera sensors. They are all still made as 4:3 sensors, any other aspect is going to crop the sensor and give you a lower resolution image.
Im talking about the screen. Where it shows the image before you take the photo. Why not use the full screen like how snap chat and the Galaxy phones do? Looks so much nicer and flusher
If they showed it any way other than how they currently do, it would not be actually sitting you what the picture would look like.
Why? snap chat and the galaxy phones show it. Whats the point of this beautiful screen when it shows an instagram square while trying to take a pic?
You do not understand aspect ratios.
God forbid someone doesn’t follow what Snapchat does lol
Or what anyone does. Yea, let’s go ahead and waste 80% of the screen.
Dude, photos are in a 4:3 aspect ratio, that’s just how it is. It’s what cameras (including the module on the iPhone) are designed for, that’s how all modern cameras take photos, it wouldn’t make sense for Apple to upend that status quo.
Because the camera takes 4:3 photos, that's why the viewfinder is also 4:3. If the camera took 16:9 photos, then your viewfinder would be more or less full screen. Also, it does't make sense for the viewfinder and resulting photo to be in different ratios.
What is this? 2002?
Why? You know that 16:9 crops the photo, right? That's why the camera takes photos in 4:3. If you want to crop, you can always do that later in the photo editor. Also there is no point in having a 16:9 view finder and 4:3 output photo, because the camera has to be WYSIWYG i.e if your view finder is displaying a 16:9 preview then the output also has to be 16:9.
Also, if you really want to take photos in 16:9 directly, you can use a third party camera app.
Like which apps?
Camera+ for one. There are many other camera apps, go try them out.
Thank you
I was wondering the same thing . The view finder is very small. The entire stock camera app is lacking to be honest. The white balance is off and the photos aren't sharp. You get much better results using 3rd party apps sadly.
What apps?
I used Lightroom CC on auto and compared the photos to the stock camera app on auto. It's a day and night difference in color, exposure, dynamic range, and texture.
Thank you!
Because the standard aspect ratio for photos is 4:3, even if they switched to 16:9 it would still not fill the screen. The reason they don’t fill the screen is because that would give you something like a 19.5:9 ratio which is in no way a standard aspect ratio for images
Anyone? What other phones take pictures with the full screen? Your talking about an app think their is a difference there.
The Galaxy s8 that i was using did
Sure it wasn’t third party? https://imgur.com/a/CBewx
It was full screen it portrait mode. I did not download any apps
I had the same frustration, so I developed an app that takes fullscreen photos, and it presents even the existing photos in a fullscreen gallery on any iPhone, including iPhone X.
Check it out: https://itunes.apple.com/app/fullpix-fullscreen-camera/id1328257733?mt=8
Please let me know what you think or if you have any other suggestions for improvement.
Thank you!
It would definitely look a lot nicer imo. Wonder what's stopping them from doing it.
The fact that the camera isn’t in that resolution.
How would you exit if it was full screen?
Swip up like every other app
It would have been harder to toggle that one if it was full screen
