I have wanted this album for many years. The first time I heard it was when it was released in 1989, I was 23. It’s hard to find on CD and it’s practically impossible to find on vinyl. If you ever do find a copy it’s usually ridiculously expensive. Couldn't believe it when I saw it here. It’s just arrived so right now I have Jeff Beck’s Guitar Shop blaring out and it’s absolutely wonderful. I am overjoyed. Seriously, well and truly overjoyed. Yes the production is dated but it was made in 1989 so what would you expect. A lot of gated drums which were the norm back then thanks to Phil Collins starting a trend but the tracks jump out and sound fantastic and the guitar work of Jeff Beck is outstanding. When wasn't it? I never saw him live, wish I had but having this in my collection is a fitting tribute to the legend that he was. If you like and love guitar tracks and dirty grooves then this is definitely up your street. I can't recommend it enough!
I bought this album as I've always wanted the track Two Rivers (as featured on The Comic Strip Presents - South Atlantic Raiders in the very early 1990's). The keyboard sounds and gated snare drums are a little dated however the playing is top notch, Jeff's guitar skills are dazzling across a number of styles.
Excellent album from Jeff Beck but the sound quality is dull, surely this can be remastered and maybe it has been already in some releases but for sure not this one. Have played the vinyl LP and it sounds great but the CD is like an early release on CD before remastering(e.g. Kate Bush Hounds Of Love original CD release sounds nowhere near as good as the remastered version that came out later). The sound quality isn't absolutely terrible but certainly not great.
I have other CDs by Jeff Beck but this album demonstrates the breadth and the depth of his talent. He is the complete master of the electric guitar and I keep playing this over and over again. I love it.
Not pne of his best . Very disjointed ,not sure if he's just going through the contractually obliged motions or he doesn't know what he wants to do .On a plus side the CD arrived on time wellpackeaged and in mint condition
For once l ordered from Amazon and the CD didn't come in a cracked or broken case so was thrilled to pieces. Have to say concerning Jeff Beck that his musical career started out well and has only gotten better since his unexpected mid- career setback. Personally l am cheered by his recovery and perseverance to go on and make even better ( and might l say, " exceptional " ) recordings . It has been inspiring to see him succeed despite what could have been a lost guitar playing hero if he had been a lesser man. I have been in awe of his talent since the " Truth " lp came out early on, and this disc here shows Mr. Beck's exceptional talent. For me this CD with Terry Bozzio ( check out Bozzio Levin Stevens' " Situation Dangerous " for a nice surprise ) and Tony Hymas marks a highly point in Jeff Beck's long career that he has been topping ever since. It's so very nice to see a uncompromising talent that is truly courageous and such an inspiration. Try this recording out on your ears and l highly doubt that you will in the least be disappointed. Go ,Jeff, too !!!
