A Written Testimony is Jay Electronica’s long-awaited debut studio album. The rapper waited a historically long time to release the record, waiting 3,921 days (approximately 10.7 years) between the release of his first single, “Exhibit A” in June 2009, and the release of A Written Testimony.
One song on the album, “Shiny Suit Theory,” was released as a single on November 15, 2010, nearly ten years before this project was released.
Electronica first started tweeting that the “album [was] done” on February 7, 2020, while also teasing its title and release date which would come in 40 days, which, at the time, would have been March 18, 2020. He also teased hip-hop legend JAY-Z as a feature on the record:
“…my debut album featuring Hov man this is highway robbery”
Some time passed until JAY-Z’s streaming service TIDAL advertised listening parties for Electronica’s debut studio album on March 11, 2020. A day later on March 12, 2020, streaming service Apple Music released the track listing of A Written Testimony written in Arabic, which, when translated, revealed Travis Scott and The-Dream to be featured on the record. Later that day, TIDAL revealed the album’s cover art in another tweet.
