Summary

  • A theory suggests Pamela Voorhees was trying to bring Jason back to life through a ritual.
  • This connects to the theory about Jason Voorhees possibly being a deadite connected to The Evil Dead.
  • The theory makes Jason's legacy even more tragic as he killed to try to resurrect his mother.

Friday the 13th introduced one of the most famous slashers in the horror genre through Jason Voorhees, and one theory gives an extra tragic twist to his legacy. Back in 1980, Friday the 13th arrived to continue developing and popularizing the slasher genre. Directed by Sean S. Cunningham and written by Victor Miller, Friday the 13th took the audience to Camp Crystal Lake, which had just reopened. Unfortunately, the young counselors began to be stalked by a mysterious killer who murdered them one by one.

The counselors had heard the legend of Jason Voorhees, a young boy who drowned in Camp Crystal Lake in 1957, and who they started to believe was the one targeting them. However, Friday the 13th had a major villain twist, as the killer turned out to be Jason’s mother, Pamela Voorhees (Betsy Palmer). Jason Voorhees became the villain of the Friday the 13th franchise from Friday the 13th Part 2 onward, and his supposed immortality has raised many questions and made way for different theories, including one that, if true, would make his story even more tragic.

Friday the 13th Theory Says Jason Voorhees Kills To Bring His Mother Back To Life

All the murders might have been part of an elaborate ritual.

A theory suggests there was more to Pamela’s murders than just grief and revenge, as she was actually trying to complete a ritual that would bring Jason back to life.

Jason Voorhees was born with severe facial deformities, and because of this, Pamela kept him isolated. In 1957, Pamela was hired as a cook at Camp Crystal Lake and took Jason with her. Jason was bullied by the other kids at the camp, who, one day, as he tried to escape from them, threw him into the lake. As none of the counselors helped him because they were having sex somewhere in the camp, Jason drowned. This led to Camp Crystal Lake being closed, but it was reopened the following year. Pamela, driven by grief and anger, murdered the counselors she blamed for Jason’s death.

Pamela continued to target the camp and its counselors every time it was reopened, hence why she was the real killer in the first Friday the 13th movie. Now, a theory shared on Reddit, suggests there was more to Pamela’s murders than just grief, pain, anger, and revenge, as she was actually trying to complete a ritual that would bring Jason back to life. Pamela succeeded but was decapitated by Alice (Adrienne King) before she could see her son again. Because of this, Jason emerged from the lake in the famous jumpscare at the end of Friday the 13th.

Now back to life, Jason went on murder sprees to recreate the ritual his mother performed to bring him back so he could resurrect his mother. Unfortunately, Jason didn’t know what the ritual was really about and how to perform it correctly, so no matter how many years he spent killing, he wouldn’t be able to resurrect Pamela.

Friday the 13th Theory Connects To Jason Voorhees Possibly Being A Deadite

The popular theory claims that Jason Voorhees is a deadite, as Pamela brought him back to life with the help of the Necronomicon.

Whether Jason Voorhees is undead or not has been a heated topic of debate among horror fans for years, but one theory, in particular, has given an interesting solution to this by connecting Friday the 13th to Sam Raimi’s The Evil Dead. The popular theory claims that Jason Voorhees is a deadite, as Pamela brought him back to life with the help of the Necronomicon. The theory gained force when, in the ninth Friday the 13th movie, Jason Goes to Hell: The Final Friday, the Necronomicon and the Kandarian Dagger could be seen.

If true, the ritual Pamela performed to bring Jason back, as suggested by the first theory, would have involved the Necronomicon.

This theory was confirmed in the comic book Freddy vs. Jason vs. Ash, which connects three horror franchises: A Nightmare on Elm Street, Friday the 13th, and The Evil Dead. If true, the ritual Pamela performed to bring Jason back, as suggested by the first theory, would have involved the Necronomicon, which explains why Jason wouldn’t have been able to repeat the ritual as he had no access to the book.

How This Theory Changes Jason Voorhees’ Friday the 13th Legacy

Jason Voorhees’ legacy takes a tragic turn.

Jason Voorhees’ backstory is tragic due to all the abuse he went through as a child and his horrible death.

The theory changes Jason Voorhees’ legacy in the horror genre by making his story even sadder than it already was. Jason Voorhees’ backstory is tragic due to all the abuse he went through as a child and his horrible death, which shouldn’t have happened at all. If the theory is true, it would mean that Jason spent the rest of his days desperately trying to bring his mother back to life by killing a lot of people, but he will never get to resurrect her.

The theory also adds an extra layer of anger to Jason, who would surely be driven by it once he realizes that all his deadly efforts won’t bring Pamela back to life. This Friday the 13th theory not only gives Jason Voorhees a specific reason to kill but also makes his story a lot more tragic and even frustrating.
