Janet Leigh was a woman of many talents – she could act, write, dance, and sing. Born on July 6, 1927, in Merced, California, she was raised in Stockton, California, as the only child of Helen Lita and Frederick Robert Morrison.

At the age of 18, Leigh was discovered by Norma Shearer, who helped her secure a contract with Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer. Her debut film, The Romance of Rosy Ridge, was released in 1947.

Growing up as an only child, Leigh spent most of her time at movie theaters, staring at the silver screen after attending the Weber Grammar School and Stockton High School. Despite her family’s financial struggles during the Great Depression, Leigh was able to study music and psychology at the University of the Pacific.

Throughout her career, Leigh appeared in a variety of films, including Little Women, Outfield, Scaramouche, Houdini, and The Black Shield of Falworth. However, she is best known for her iconic role as Marion Crane in Hitchcock’s Psycho in 1960. Her performance earned her a Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actress, an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actress, and a Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. In fact, after watching the infamous shower scene, Leigh famously stated that she only took baths from then on – and if you haven’t seen it, you’ll understand why!

Leigh also appeared in The Fog with her daughter, Jamie Lee Curtis, in 1980, and in Halloween H20: 20 Years Later in 1998.
