Mississippi man gunned down 5 years after his girlfriend was burned to death

The former boyfriend of a Mississippi cheerleader who died a horrific death after being doused with gasoline and set on fire was fatally shot on Friday.

Jessica Chambers, 19, was found on a back road Dec. 6, 2014, in the small town of Courtland with burns over almost her entire body. She died the next day.

Her then-boyfriend, Travis Sanford, had a perfect alibi: he had been incarcerated when Chambers was killed.

Sheriff Dennis Darby said a suspect in Sanford’s fatal shooting, who he did not identify, is being questioned, according to the Clarion Ledger newspaper.

The suspect, as well as Sanford and his current girlfriend, had been in the house where he was killed by a single blast from a shotgun, officials said. Two young kids were also present.

A man named Quentin Tellis was charged with the cheerleader’s death. His two trials both ended with hung juries.

Tellis also was charged with the August 2015 stabbing death of Ming-Chen Hsiao, a University of Louisiana student.

Tellis pleaded guilty to unauthorized use of Hsiao’s credit card and was sentenced to 10 years prison.
