It would have been really nice if this was discussed over 8 seasons instead of the catfish.
I want both this AND the affair.
They hide SO MUCH DRAMA from the cameras. I get wanting privacy but they’re literally selling their lives for us to see. So let us see!
I didn’t know until recently that Janelle was married previously…and to Meri’s brother, at that. I wonder if that’s why they butted heads?
affair? you aren't saying the catfish-- sooo what affair?
Remember that time Meri met that “guy” and was totally going to leave Kody for “him”? And how she got so far as vacationing with “him” (or so she thought) and wanting her kid to meet “him”? That affair?
Just cause she didn’t get to fuck doesn’t mean it’s not an affair.
I am not debating whether it's an affair or not... the person said they were over posts about the catfishing storyline, the next person says they want to discuss the 'affair' and then a bunch of confusing answers. so affair/catfishing all same storyline? beat to death.
Only in Kody World is a woman communicating with someone on the Internet after her husband emotionally abandons her for years and then divorces her considered to be having an "affair."
Agreed! Im tired of people excusing this as not Meri having an affair. She agreed to the polyg lifestyle and letting her husband marry other women and if she was no longer happy she should have just left before trolling the internet for attention from another man. There is no excuse for cheating.
When was this
That must be awkward. Marrying right back into the same family as your ex? Still seeing them at family get togethers? 😳
I can’t even imagine how that would all work. Lol!
Well, it doesn't. 😏
Just like responsible divorced parents do, appear civilized.
Isn’t robins ex related to kody?
Christine’s cousin I believe.
I thought a cousin of Kody. But quite possibly Christine too. Think about the branches on those family trees!
Does he and Janelle have any sort of friendship or interactions? I wonder if she left him for Kody or if she just left him. Wonder if he and Meri and alike and that is why its harder for Janelle to get along with Meri.
Good point about Janelle and Meri!
She left him for Kody. The 4 of them used to be good friends. And for sure that’s the problem with meri and janelle. I’d be mad too! Lol
Crazy. Janelle always acts like the poor bullied victim but I would’ve completely put my foot down about her joining the family. That’s just so awkward
I agree. And can you just imagine what it was like for special events? I think this was the reason for the problems with meri and janelle. No way would I stand for my sil becoming my sister wife. Just ugh. Lol
You had sex with my brother and now my husband? 🤮🤮🤮
She already left him by the time she started liking Kody
Janelle's essentially said she fell in love with Kody at first sight -- which happened to be when Meri introduced her fiance to her then-sister-in-law.
Fast forward a few months and Janelle and Adam are in the midst of what Janelle has characterized as a "bitter divorce." But even mid-divorce, Janelle still attends Meri and Kody's wedding and is conveniently standing next to Kody in his and Meri's wedding pictures.
After her divorce, Janelle remains in the community and at one point conveniently offers to rent Kody and Meri a portion of the house she got in her divorce settlement.
Then lo and behold, approximately 3 years after she meets Kody, Janelle asks Meri to leave the room and, once she's gone, asks Kody to marry her.
All this time, Kody's under the impression that Meri and Janelle are "friends." But from that point on, Janelle is Kody's friend and she and Meri are no longer "friends" at all.
And when Kody is shocked that they don't get along, he blames Meri for being jealous. Headdesk
Wow! What a snake! And that whole business with her mom marrying Kody’s dad?!? Ewww!!!
Exactly. So yuck.
I wonder if he remarried? Ever went polygamous? He and Meri were both raised in polygamy, right?
He looks older than Meri. The family converted when she was 9 and brought in a sister wife when she was 11 so if he was a little older he might have rejected religion like Kody’s brother did.
Thank you. I did not realize that Meri was not born into it. I assumed her family had been practicing polygamy for generations .
I didn't realize this until much later, but I think the only one who was raised with it from the get go is Christine (oddly enough--the only one who has left). Robyn's birth Dad and Mom got a divorce and I believe that marriage was monogamous. Everyone else converted later. Maybe that's the issue, they didn't really get what they were signing up for!
Yes he did remarry. He's definitely not a polygamist.
Thank you!
In the book she says she left him because he wasn't religious either in the one he was raised in or the LDS church that he converted to for Janelle.
Then she says that his family was still making a big effort to include her while they were estranged and going through the divorce. That she was estranged when Meri and Kody got married but they were still attending things together, like the wedding. In Meri's section section she says that after Janelle's divorce that they had a "cordial" relationship. So she may not have seen it as making a big effort like Janelle did.
In any case it sounds like Janelle's relationship blew up almost immediately. They only lived together 6 months. I don't think she was eyeing Kody at that point. But it sounds like Kody was saying things to Janelle at a friendly lunch after that and Meri was not informed.
Probably no hard feelings. They just weren’t in love.
How has this NEVER been discussed in depth in 16 fucking seasons!! Hello?!?!
They don’t like that kind of multiplying love. Lol
Bwahaha😆😅🤣
So Janelle left her husband and married her stepbrother who also happened to be her ex-brother-in-law. Christine is also related to Robyn’s ex-husband… yuck! These people normalize crossing all kinds of boundaries like they’re stuck on a small island.
Yes, the cesspool for this type of religion is small. Pickins are slim.
Don’t forget Janelle’s mom and Kody’s dad were married later in life (they met when Janelle and Kody were courting).
Her mom was going to “check out Kody’s family” and ended up becoming kody’s dad’s second wife. Mind blowing for sure!
I know but it still adds to the weirdness… too many intermarriage ties.
Yes I was just adding another example :)

I think she’s cousins with Robyn’s ex husband.
Why’d they get a divorce? Tell me everything.
Not sure. But they were married for 2 years and then 3 years later she married Kody. But….she met Kody because he was her brother in law. 🤢
She was at Meri's wedding with Adam. They are in the "family" pictures together.
The amount of incestuous stuff that goes on in these families is disturbing. You know there are crossed blood lines everywhere 👀
Janelle isn’t related to Kody by blood. He is related to Christine and Robyn’s kids
Doesn't really sound like they were running around while Janelle was married.
Because janelle married Kody. You can see why they had such problems (meri and janelle).
Meri certainly exacted her pound of flesh. Meri would have struggled with whoever came in the marriage at the time. This just gave her just cause.
She probably would have. I don’t know how anyone crosses that threshold of polygamy. Yuk. I could never do it.
Me either, I think that's part of the fascination with them. Otherwise, they would we quite boring.
Or why they would want to. 🤷♀️
My guess would be the shallowest reason: they wanted to bang but couldn’t unless married and then it fizzled out.
I think in their book she said they were incompatible spiritually and iirc physically?
Prob because as loudguitar said He and Meri are exactly alike so it’s like she was married to Meri originally 😂 hence the divorce
In the book Janelle is pretty vague about it but makes it seem like she didn't like that he wasn't very religious. He converted from AUB to LDS, married Janelle, but according to her wasnt passionate about either faith. They separated about 6m in but still attended family events together. Then were officially divorced around their first wedding anniversary I think. So it was a short lived marriage. (And like many Mormon couples they had gotten married after only knowing each other a few months, so this was less than a 2yr relationship total)
Janelle does mention feeling drawn to Kody the first time she met him, you know, dessiny and all that. But whether this is her rewriting some things to fit their specific narrative, or uh, may have been an issue in her first marriage. Who knows.
Janelle strikes me as someone who likely has some odd kinks, to be totally honest. I genuinely think she gets off on knowing she could "get" both Meri's brother and then her husband, too. No wonder Meri has never liked Janelle. But I also wonder what it is about her that caused her to be drawn to a cult in the first place. I mean, sure, she knew Meri and Kody through Meri's brother, but what mentally stable person divorces their husband and then conveniently also goes after her ex SIL's husband?! Polygamy or not, that is messed up and weirdly calculated.
And we know about her mother through the show, but not her biological father. When did he exit the picture? Was he ever around in her life at all? Most people don't go out of their way to seek out a cult if they weren't raised in it. And then for a mother and daughter to both seek it?
I've always found her to be the most difficult to figure out psychologically. She is the only one who wasn't really raised in it. Robyn and Meri's families both converted when they were young (anyone please correct me if I'm wrong). Christine was plyg royalty. And then here you have Janelle and her mom basically going out of their way to choose a cult-like religion and then marrying into the same family, which is even weirder.
So what I found interesting from reading the book is that Janelle's mother was originally mainstream protestant (Baptist maybe? I think she's mentioned at some point having a lot of family originally from the south) And converted to LDS while she was in college and raised her kids in it.
Janelle's bio dad died when she was very young, like 3ish I believe. Then her stepdad has been described as cold and distant. Basically just existed in the same household as the rest of the family, her mother divorced him at some point.
Both Kody's dad and Meri's dad are mentioned in the book by Janelle to have been very determined to "keep her in the fold" after her divorce from Adam. At one point Winn was trying to set Janelle up with one of Kody's brothers but she was only interested in Kody.
My guess is after growing up with an emotionally withdrawn husband/father figure it was very appealing for Janelle and her mother to see what appears to be these big, interactive, and welcoming families with male head ships who are very much involved with their families.
Janelle's bio dad died when she was a child.
Quite a span in between marriages if they were running around during her marriage to Adam.
I don't think they were running around (or there was any sort of cheating). Just maybe she was too friendly or showed too much interest in Kody than maybe Adam was comfortable with.
But I think it's more likely that the "instant connection" is something unconsciously made up in order to fit her religious narrative and beliefs.
I can see that. Seems from what I read that Adam wasn't fully into the religion and they were incompatible. Meri would have had a poor relationship with no matter who Kody married.
Why did they attend family events together? It’s not like they had children and were going for the kids.
Yeah, I can see Janelle and Adam together.
How did I not know Janelle was previously married…?
It doesn't work. They have shown that over and over
What’s the story of Janelle and Meris brother?
They were married for 2 years. That’s how she met Kody. Then they divorced and she married Kody as wife #2
Because Kody was a better catch? Lol
Since Janelle and Kody are spiritually (?) brother and sister (reminder Janelle's mom is Kody's dad's wife). That makes Janelle the wives Sister Wife AND sister-in-law right?
They are husband/ wife AND step sister/brother AND former brother in law / sister in law.
Wait, wait..... wow.... I didn't know some of this...
Wait what? Janelle was married to Meri’s brother then married her husband? And Janelle’s mom was married to Kody’s Dad? What in the incest
The family wreath. Not a branch to be found.
Hahahahahahaha this is the best comment ever
I wonder why she divorced him. She seems so easy going with the Kody clan. It had to be really bad
I bet that Janelle probably still gets along with Adam. If it didn't work, it didn't work. Meri would have been crazed over whoever Kody married. She has a monogamous heart.
Very creepy that their families are all entwined. Family picnics must be weird. Checking out who your relative married and taking notes, for future reference. Just ewww.🤢
(And I'm a moron, I never realize what show this was about so I couldn't remember "Junelle you high" being married to this guy.)😂
I had NO clue! And I'm literally laying here watching this episode right now..how long were Janelle and Adam married?
I think I need to read the book....
They were married for 2 years.
Well at least she upgraded…right??? Hahah
Only because she likes ponytails on her man?
waitttt whattttt
Yep. Janelle was married to Meri’s brother. She then divorced him and married Kody. And Janelle’s mama married Kody dad.
