Jane ( Betty ) Stephens 72, of 354 Park Ave. Oil City, PA. passed away at her home late Tuesday afternoon after a brief illness.
- She was born in Lansing, MI on March 24, 1941 daughter of the late Arnold and Bertha DeLaney Harvey.
- Jane graduated from West Allegheny High School in 1959, She received her Bachelor of Arts from Slippery Rock in 1963 and went on to earn her Masters in Science Education from Clarion University. She was also a Master Gardener.
- An officer in the Garden Club, She was actively involved with the development of Hasson Park, the Fountain, the Garden Walks and Tin Pan Alley as well as the Community Concert Association.
- Mrs. Stephens interests included being a board member of the Venango Science Museum, helping with the Clothes Collection for the Winnifred Tonkin Guild, and was a 10 yr. member of the Oil City School Board. She also coached cheerleading for Oil City. Was a supporter of the Oil City Library. A Venango County Fair Supporter and helped in judging gymnastics. And in the early 60's played on a semi-pro basketball team led by Joan Rush called Kelly's.
- She was of the Catholic Faith.
- Jane married Robert J. Stephens in Newton Falls, OH on July 27, 1963 and he survives along with three children and their spouses '� Christin Ashway of Columbia, PA. , Susan and Brian Hager of Columbia, MD, and Michael and Angela Stephens of Oil City. 4 grandchildren Danielle and Barry Ashway and Mason and Madison Stephens.
- She is also survived by 6 brothers and sisters '�Richard Harvey Newton Falls,OH, Mary Ann Fiscus Imperial,PA, Nancy Harvey Calabasas, CA, Robert Harvey Mooresville, NC, Joan Rendinell Newport Richey, FL, Janet Gronczewski Angola, IN.
- She was preceded in death by an infant son Robert A. Stephens and by a brother Jack Harvey.
- The family will receive friends from 7-9 P.M. Friday in the Reinsel Funeral Home and Crematory.
- A Funeral Mass will be Celebrated at 10:00 A.M. Sat. at the Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Oil City. Fr. Shane Mathew will preside. Interment will follow in Brandon Cemetery.
- In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the: Oil City Garden Club,
for the Jane Stephens Memorial. c/o Linda Morrison 107 West 1st St. Oil City, PA. 16301.
- A special thanks to family and friends for their help , support and prayers, to Ascera Care and especially to Tonya Ochalek, Janes Hospice Nurse.
