The Suicide Squad creator can't wait to see James Gunn's new movie. The villainous team made their DCEU debut in 2016's David Ayer-directed Suicide Squad. The film proved polarizing, with critics and some fans disliking the watered-down PG-13 movie. The film proved to be a box office success, though, grossing $746 million worldwide against a $175 million budget. A sequel was initially expected to be fast-tracked, but plans were put on hold so the studio could retool the film.

Enter James Gunn, fresh off the success of the second Guardians of the Galaxy movie. Gunn was fired by Disney for resurfaced offensive tweets, and DC quickly swooped in to have him write and direct the sequel to Suicide Squad. The upcoming sequel-reboot will feature some of the first film's characters, including Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie), Rick Flag (Joel Kinnaman), Captain Boomerang (Jai Courtney), and Amanda Waller (Viola Davis), as well as a slew of new villains that Gunn decided to bring to the big screen. A new glimpse at The Suicide Squad was released on Friday with the film's first trailer, and at least one person is extremely excited.

, who created the modern version of the Suicide Squad in 1987, expressed his excitement for the upcoming film after seeing the trailer. DC Comics posted his reaction to the trailer, with Ostrander seemingly in disbelief at the trailer, saying he wants to see the film "on the biggest screen [he] can find."

The Suicide Squad's red band trailer shows how different this movie will be from the 2016 original. Not only does it look to have the bloody violence that fans are used to from the comics, but it also has the wry humor and foul-mouthed villains too. Complaints around the original film centered around how Suicide Squad was holding back from its full potential and, now that Gunn is on board, that seems to have changed. Gunn is known for taking obscure comic book groups and making them hits on the big screen, with both Guardians of the Galaxy movies becoming massive hits.

The director looks to be doing the same with The Suicide Squad, and he has Ostrander in his corner on this one. Comic creators reactions to adaptations of their work tend to be on the negative side. Winter Soldier creator Ed Brubaker expressed mixed feelings about the Disney+ series Falcon and the Winter Soldier and its handling of his character. Ostrander's stamp of approval is likely a relief for Gunn, Warner Bros., and fans who are eager to see this team reach their full potential. While The Suicide Squad's trailer doesn't give away much, it does clue viewers into the fact that this film will be wildly different from its 2016 counterpart.
