The Deja is a vehicle in Jailbreak that was released in the Balance Update, along with the Ray. This small Japanese car is the first of many new "affordable" vehicles which asimo3089 has stated he would be focusing on after the release of the now-removed Blade.

The Deja costs Cash Icon10,000 and spawns in the Prison Police Station parking lot. Prior to the Dream Homes Update, it spawned on a sidewalk next to the buyable house in the town. Prior to the 2023 Prison Update, it previously spawned in the now-removed Prison Garage.

Overview

Prior to the Deja, another small, cheap car, known as the Mighty, was found here. Though retiring in March 2020, it, alongside the Steed, weren’t immediately replaced. The Challenger eventually replaced the Steed, but with the addition of the Deja, another cheap, small car found in the Town, it became obvious that the Mighty finally had been replaced.

When drifting, the Deja features a thick white smoke effect, similar to the one seen in the street-racing manga series named Initial D. Only the Deja, Proto-08 and Parisian had this effect, all other vehicles featured the default thin black smoke when drifting. However, as of the April 2023 update, the Deja no longer has a unique drift effect. Instead, it was replaced with the classic drift effect that most vehicles have. It can be replicated with the “Performance” drift customization option in the Vehicle customization menu. It, the Desert Crawler, and the Delorean, are also currently the only purchasable vehicles with an overdrive gear.

The Deja is also a popular car as of the Town Revamp Update. Prior to this, its spawn location at the Mountainside Town was a factor which made some players not purchase it, as the Town was heavily unvisited. Though, when the Prison Garage was added, Police vehicles such as the Surus, Patrol, and SWAT Van were moved into it, but oddly enough, the Camaro was absent. Instead, the Deja spawned in the final slot, and the Camaro gained a second spawn outside the parking lot. Now, due to its very accessible and visited spawn point and cheap price, it is quite common to see new players driving around in the Deja.

As of the Dream Homes Update, its spawn at one of the old houses was removed. During the Jailbreak Attacked event, the Prison Garage was burnt, and the spawn of the Deja was removed too. This spawn was added back 4 days later.

Performance

Before, the Deja was not that great for most practical uses. Unlike the Mighty, the Deja was slightly slower than the Camaro and Pickup. The acceleration was also not as great, being comparable to that of the Camaro and Pickup. It is, however, cheaper than the Mighty, which somewhat justifies its worse performance. When compared to the Camaro and Pickup, the Deja was beaten in mid-range to long-range travel, but in shorter distances, it was equal to them.

Overall, the Deja was considered quite inferior to the Mighty in terms of overall performance and was comparable to the Camaro, Pickup, and the Dirtbike. When using this for fun, due to its unique smoke effect as well as its anime popularity, makes the Deja a very fun car. However, for players starting the game, it was recommended that they purchased the Model 3 for Cash Icon16,000.

However, as of the July 2022 Update, the Deja has been buffed, now having a great top speed. It now has an overdrive gear as well, similar to the Arachnid and Delorean. Its acceleration was buffed as well. It is now able to beat the Camaro, Pickup, Badger, and even the Model 3. It is just behind the Raptor, and a bunch of other vehicles, making it a vehicle worth its cheap price. It also does not require hijacking to get it from the Prison, so it is easy to escape by using the ramp and using Rocket Fuel.

After its buff, once it hits around 128 MPH, it overdrives to about 145 MPH, which is slightly faster than the Model 3, SUV, and Badger. However, it is behind the Raptor, Drone, Ray and Steed. The reverse speed is not terrible, being 54 MPH. It beats the Tank, the Sloop, the Jet, the Jet Ski, and more.

Quite slow in terms of launch speed. Its launch is not the best, nor the worst either, it is comparable to the Camaro, Pickup, and Ambulance. It can reach 45 MPH. Decent acceleration rate, but it takes a while to reach top speed from a standstill, comparable to Camaro, Pickup, and Firetruck. It takes around 10 or so seconds to reach top speed.

Handles decently at low speed, but it can be hard and slippery to control at top speed. While drifting, it is easier to control on fairly straight roads. Comparable to the Challenger, Eclaire, and Brulee. Decent off-roading ability and ground clearance, it might lose a little bit of speed when off-roading and can flip over sometimes.

Trivia

  • The Deja's model is a fusion between the Toyota Sprinter Trueno Hatchback and Coupe models.
    • The name "Deja" is a reference to the song from Initial D: Déjà Vu.
    • Many people think it is actually the AE86, the JDM version, when it is actually the USDM AE86, this is noticeable as the steering wheel is actually on the left side whereas the JDM version is actually on the right side.
  • The Deja is the first Toyota-branded car to be added, as well as the first Japanese car overall.
  • The car was first hinted at in a Twitter reply by asimo3089. He responded to a fan's suggestion for a JDM car, saying: "Keep an eye on @Badimo this week. Not a famous JDM, but it is a JDM."
    • In actuality, the AE86 is not only a popular JDM car but is one of the most recognizable cultural icons in the automotive world.
    • JDM stands for Japanese Domestic Market, which means the original manufacturer of the car only sold it in Japan.
  • Shortly before the Deja was revealed, a tweet from asimo3089 stated that the new vehicle will be both affordable and "meme-worthy". asimo3089 repeated the message, creating a déjà vu effect, a reference to Initial D's song: Déjà Vu.
  • Seen from the teaser image, there is a unique smoke effect behind the Deja. This made its way into the game. As of February 2023, this effect is also a part of the drifting of the Parisian and Proto-08.
    • It also features a driver seat on the right side, being a Japanese car. After the update's release, the driver seat is on the left, therefore making it a USDM Corolla GTS, but without the regulatory 5 mph (8 km/h) bumpers.
    • The drifting smoke was removed in the April 2023 update. It can be replicated by using the “Performance” or “Cartoon” drifting smoke in the Vehicle customization menu.
  • Before the Town Revamp Update, the window tint customization used to not work on the Deja, along with the Ray, which was released in the same update. It has since been patched.
    • There is also a bug where the taillights of the Deja and the Ray will not turn off, even when the vehicle is driving forwards. This has been fixed.
  • Strangely, the unique drifting trail can only be seen by the driver, whilst others can't.
    • This drift effect has since been removed in April 2023.
  • In the Volcano Eruption Update, the house that held its spawn was destroyed, leaving the Deja to spawn on a piece of grass nearby.
    • The Deja now spawns near one of the houses in the Mountainside Town, along with an additional spawn point at the Prison Garage
  • During the Jailbreak Attacked Update, the spawn of the Deja was removed to make way for flames, making it limited for a while, and only purchasable when another player spawns it in. The same thing happened to the Semi after the 2023 NASCAR Event.
    • A similar thing happened to the Torpedo and Arachnid, except that these two were never meant to be purchasable after their spawns were removed as their respective seasons were over.

Miscellaneous Trivia

  • The Deja is the fifth vehicle in Jailbreak with a fictional name, after the Volt, Torpedo, Arachnid, Surus, and before the Ray, M12 Molten, Beam Hybrid, Crew Capsule, Volt 4X4, Rattler, and the Banana Car.
    • Other vehicles used to have names similar to its real-life counterpart, including, but not limited to, the Mighty, Steed, Posh, and JB8, which all received a name change in a Miscellaneous Update 103 to avoid future copyright strikes.
  • The Deja is the second vehicle to leave a custom trail, the first being the Volt, and the third being the Volt 4X4.
    • However, the Volt's trail is activated by default and can be customized, the same goes to the Volt 4X4.
  • The Deja is the third cheapest vehicle in the game that costs in-game cash, after the Pickup and Fiasco, although the Fiasco requires a safe to get and is not guaranteed.
  • The Deja is the fourth vehicle in Jailbreak with 3 seats, after the JB8, Celestial, and the Dune Buggy and before Crew Capsule, Banana Car and the Bandit.
  • The Deja was the third vehicle to spawn in one of the Town's houses. after the Camaro and Mighty.
  • The Deja is the fourth vehicle in Jailbreak to replace a retired vehicle, after the Eclaire, Challenger, Surus, and before the Drone and Boxer.
  • The Deja is the third vehicle with its spawns temporarily removed from the game, whether intentional or unintentional, with the first being the Dune Buggy and second being the Semi.
