John W. Zimmer, age 65, of Sparks, NV (formerly East Grand Forks, MN) passed away on Monday February 9, 2009 in Reno, NV.
John W. Zimmer was born in Grand Forks, ND in 1943, the eldest son of Ambrose and Margaret (Trydahl) Zimmer. John attended school in East Grand Forks, MN graduating from Sacred Heart in 1961. He pursued higher education at the University of St. Thomas, University of Minnesota, Mankato State and the University of Nebraska where he received a Doctor of Philosophy in Human Learning & Development in 1977.
John continued his love of learning by working as a Psychology Professor at the University of Toledo. He served as a consultant for local medical facilities and presented his life's work at several conventions during the course of his distinguished career. Throughout his tenure and after his retirement from the University, John conducted and published various research projects with colleagues throughout the United States.
John is survived by his siblings: Tom (Marvette) Zimmer, Richard (Anne) Zimmer, Steven (Sandy) Zimmer and Susan Gaddie; nieces and nephews: Angie (Morshed) Shahid, Mandy (Nathan) Ketterling, Nicole (Jarrod) Spoor, Chad Zimmer, Elizabeth (Ajay Rao) Zimmer, Matthew Zimmer, Joey (Kelly) Zimmer, Ashley (Jack) Sandeen and Alyssa Zimmer, as well as eight (8) great nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Ambrose and Margaret (Trydahl) Zimmer.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a donation to the National Arthritis Foundation on John's behalf.
Memorial Service: 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 14, 2009, at the Gregory J. Norman Funeral Chapel located at 2950 South Washington Street, Grand Forks ND.
