Applying for a Marriage License | Jackson County, MI
PLEASE NOTE: If you live in Michigan, one of the applicants MUST be a Jackson County resident. If both applicants live in another state, you will need to apply in the County where the marriage ceremony will take place. After the online application has been completed, please call (517) 788-4265 to provide payment information. Visa, MasterCard, American Express, and Discover are accepted. Please see chart of Enhanced Access Fees. Government-issued photo identification is required to be shown at the time of pick up.If you are unsure if you qualify, contact our office prior to completing the online application.
Apply In Office
Please review the Affidavit For License to Marry (PDF) for required information prior to visiting the office. Government-issued photo identification listing your current address will also be required to be shown.
Fees
$20 for Michigan residents
$30 for out-of-state applicants
$20 to waive the three day waiting period (excluding active military personnel)
$15 to purchase a certified copy of your marriage certificate after you are married
Cash, check, credit, and debit card payments are accepted. An Enhanced Access Fee will be assessed to credit and debit payments.

Marriage licenses must be used within 33 days from the date of application. Instructions on processing the license after the marriage ceremony will be provided at the time the license is picked up.
