John Cena Responds to Dave Bautista Saying He'd Never Star in a Movie With Him

WWE beef, apparently, doesn't just stay in the ring. Back in June, a fan suggested that John Cena (star of Vacation Friends, out today), The Rock, and Dave Bautista—all WWE stars who have found success as actors—should star in a movie together.

Bautista was quick to let people know what he thought about it, tweeting, "Nah, I'm good!!" Two days later, he clarified by posting a collage of his film roles, writing, "I figured a visual reference might help. I’d just prefer not to be lumped in. Nothing personal." Now, in a new video interview for Esquire's "Explain This" series, we asked Cena himself what he thought of Bautista's comments. In a wide-ranging interview that covers everything from the potential of Cena joining the MCU, to his cryptic Instagram account, Cena spoke at length about Bautista's acting journey:

"I'm super sad about that, because Dave Bautista is an unbelievably gifted actor. He's done some amazing work. But I think when someone makes a statement like that, I think the important thing is to try and look at things from their perspective. Dave has worked so hard on his craft. And he is so dedicated to his characters. And really wants to put forth a body of work that gives him his own identity. I 100 percent understand that. Dave is one of the nicest guys you'll ever meet and one of the most generous guys you'll ever meet. I don't have any beef with Dave and I really genuinely think Dave doesn't have any beef with me. He really just wants to be identified and recognized for his work. And I cannot fault him for that. I applaud him for it. To be brave enough to say something like that kind of allows him to go forth on his own and I appreciate that."

It's a classy response from Cena, who provided some much-needed context to the are-they-feuding? discourse surrounding the two actors. Sometimes you've gotta do your own thing! We're glad Cena gets that. Just know that the rest of the "Explain This" video isn't that heavy, so give it a watch if you want to know what Cena thinks about a potential crossover between the MCU and the DCEU.
