Carragher has shared his honest opinion on White's England snub.

Jamie Carragher has given a brutally honest opinion on Ben White's decision to snub an England call-up ahead of Euro 2024.

Arsenal defender White sparked controversy earlier this month when he rejected a call-up to the England squad for friendlies against Brazil and Belgium at Wembley.

England boss Gareth Southgate announced White's decision during a press conference, admitting that is was "a great shame."

The manager added: "I want to leave the door open for him because he's a good player. I think he's a player who can make a difference for England."

Southgate denied that an alleged bust-up between White and England assistant coach Steve Holland was the reason behind White's snub.

The 26-year-old has come under heavy criticism from fans and former players, but now former England star Jamie Carragher has come up with a theory that could explain White's decision.

"Ben White is fourth or fifth choice [right-back] to be totally honest. He’s not better than Trent [Alexander-Arnold], [Kyle] Walker, Reece James or [Kieran] Trippier," Carragher said during The Overlap Fan Debate.

"Number one, he’s not going to play anyway. I don’t think so, he doesn’t even play centre-back for his club. He’s probably thinking he can relax and get ready for Arsenal."

Carragher then took Trippier as an example of player who should be in the England side ahead of White.

"I’m talking in general over the last two or three years, not over the last six months. Don’t just look at this from an Arsenal point of view, Trippier has had a bad three or four months but for the last two or three years he’s been a brilliant player for England."

Alexander-Arnold, James and Trippier all missed the recent internationals through injury, while Walker suffered a hamstring issue during England's 1-0 defeat to Brazil.

Arsenal and England star Declan Rice admitted he will try and convince White to change his mind.
