I got a mail from university of waterloo department of electrical and computer engineering that my file had been recommended for admission for master program and the file had been sent to the university graduate studies office for final decision.
My question now is dat,would they give me admission with the recommendation from the department to them?

she got 3.6 on 5 point scale
Re: I Wish To Go For My M.sc Program In Canada. by wip4: 5:48pm On Jun 15, 2010
with 3.6 /5.0 she can be admitted only if she studied someting related or very close cos that is 2.88 on scale 4.0 and most canadian university will gladly take 3.0 on scale 4.0 but MUN do take like 2.88 but her former course must be related then or same. if not i think she will beter choose same course and change during the following semester , they do take interfaculty transfer if she can pick some related courses in her first semester. she can email the school. they are in the best position to say anything anyway.

@Wip4
I must sincerely commend you for your time and efforts so far on this thread. I have always appreciated the way people like you take time to enlighten people on issues for free, and this has motivated me to also do likewise with any knowledge i have. However, i want to implore everyone that in as much as we can all ask questions, let us all try to do some research of our own, so that we can spend more time asking/answering questions that the answers are not that conspicuous.

Asking questions like "What universities are in Canada?", "Or how much is their tuition fee?" and similar questions that the answers could be easily obtained on the internet (aucc.ca, braintrack, google, cic.gc.ca amongst others) would be a waste of valuable time we can spend discussing more important issues such as application process and/or visa application or general information about settling in the new environment.

However, i need an advice from you though, I studied my Bachelors degree in the UK (With a 2:1 - majored in Computing), and currently about concluding my MSc degree in Software Engineering (UK also - and am on course to have at least a merit). My question is, i am considering going to Canada for further studies; universities i am considering are Saskatchewan, Manitoba and Victoria, but i am at a loss if i should apply for a Research Masters or just apply straight for my PhD?

Personally, my preference would have been the PhD, but being that both degrees i obtained in the UK were taught degrees and not research, i don't know if i might not be successful with a direct PhD application, am assuming my chances on a Research masters are more obvious. So based on your experience, what would you advise? The Research MSc or the PhD?

Many thanks bro.
Re: I Wish To Go For My M.sc Program In Canada. by Rare(m): 8:05am On Feb 09, 2011
@barbosa1. Nice contribution.

It's a good thing you have done some research on your own and narrowed your school choices to three. Within those schools you must have identified certain research areas they're involved in. I would advise you initiate contact with the Professors in those schools (involved in identified areas). Discuss your concerns with them (email, or phone). They are usually open to being contacted. They are the ones that ultimately recommend research masters or PhD hires. Why not attempt to hear what they'd say directly before applying.
Re: I Wish To Go For My M.sc Program In Canada. by barbosa1(m): 8:14am On Feb 09, 2011
@Rare
Thank you for the compliment, but most importantly for your contribution. Indeed i have identified various areas of research within these schools, that fits perfectly with my proposed research area, however, it has never really occurred to me to initiate contact! cheesy

Despite having read somewhere on the various universities program page about the Professors doing the recommendations just as you stated.  grin Once more, thank you very much,  And yea, one more thing, amongst these 3 provinces; have you got an idea of living cost (Cheapest)? My findings have been inconclusive,
Re: I Wish To Go For My M.sc Program In Canada. by Rare(m): 1:07am On Feb 10, 2011
@barbosa1; listed below are links to contacts for international students for each of the schools.

The Int'l Centers/Office in most schools have a lot of updated info with regards to living cost & many other concerns for prospective int'l students. If you contact them each they would be more than glad to give you a sample budget breakdown, and other ideas from a student point of view, in their specific locations.

Winnipeg, Manitoba: http://umanitoba.ca/student/staffdir/ics.html

It's not compulsory but your chances of getting in are slimmer without one.

As for Graduate Studies @mun, their graduate tuition payment system is per semester payment and that is one the advantages why many Nigerian students prefer mun to other schools in Canada because it is affordable and easy to cope in terms of tuition payment.
