I have dined at the Gandy Dance numerous times and keep coming back for the nostalgia only. Our service today was GREAT, very attentive, prompt and pleasant.; we had five in our party and four of us had dinners; the overall rating from the group was a four out of ten; the head chef needs to move the food up five notches and please the patrons; the consensus of the group was not impressed. I do love the setting of the Gandy Dancer, that does not get any better!! Ann Arbor has a lot to offer, maybe visit for a drink only.

The Gandy Dancer is in an old train station with active track right outside the window. Nice ambiance. The service here is very good. Parking can be a problem but they do have complimentary valet service. Between the hours of 3:30 and 5:30 there are "early bird deals" but they don't call attention to it. You have to ask for that menu. You also have to request the complimentary whitefish pate that will come with the bread basket. It is excellent, as are there homemade rolls. The waiter will give you his "favorites" which coincide with all the higher price items. All of the selections we have tried have been delicious and eye appealing. Save room for desserts as they are worth the calories.

We went here as part of a seminar so it's very possible that the food is better than it was for this one event. There were only a few items to pick from and I had (seeing how this was a Muer restaurant and famous for seafood) the shrimp. My wife chose the steak. I wish I had also picked the steak because the small taste I had of hers was very good. My shrimp was good but not outstanding. I did like the almonds crusted on top. They were a bit overdone but again that could be because of the type of venue. The staff was very friendly and attentive and the atmosphere was also first class. I did look at a menu on the internet before we went and was glad that this was a supplied meal because of the prices. When we are in the area again, we will come back and give it a fair chance along with a fair review.

Parking is limited so it's best to valet, which is free; but they do expect a tip.

This is a beautiful historic building which has been restored to its original condition. Woodwork is rich, atmosphere is cozy.

Menu is extensive and expensive.

Appetizers:
New England Clam Chowder - As a native New Englander, this chowda' was no more than a thin soup, thickened with corn starch. Nothing creamy about it at all. $7.00
Scallops - tender, meaty and tasty. Nicely presented - very small portion. $13.25

Entree:
Alaskan Halibut Dynamite - Chef's nightly special - nice presentation, fish was on the dry side.
Pepper Crusted Tournedo's - meat was tender - sauce was very tasty.

Both entrees were over $25 each

Dessert:
We split a raspberry "something" ... it was nothing to write home about.

Service was pleasant enough - a bit of a "hard" sell on some type of restaurant club membership ... totally inappropriate in my opinion (especially at 5 star prices)

The history of the building is interesting - you can see the trains as they stop and leave from the station.
