Our History
Our History
Early in 1958, as a means to finance his education, John Menard, the founder of the company, decided to make his dream a reality. Picking up some building knowledge in the summer of 1958, John worked days on his first pole buildings and nights at a local movie theater while contracting other buildings to keep his crew working.
As the company grew and demand continued to increase, Menards was formed after John Menard graduated for college and could devote all of his time to the business. He purchased land where a small office and shop were erected on the Eau Claire site.
Prospective pole building Customers often inquired about purchasing lumber and building materials. Realizing the consumer need for a building materials outlet, Menards began to sell materials to the public which was the beginning of Menard Cashway Lumber.
As the company grew and demand continued to increase, Menards was formed after John Menard graduated for college and could devote all of his time to the business. He purchased land where a small office and shop were erected on the Eau Claire site.

John Menard continued to expand his company. Menards currently has over 330 store locations across the Midwest with new stores opening each year!
Our modern, well-stocked and maintained stores are built with Customer convenience in mind, offering something for everyone, from the beginner do-it-yourselfer, to the more experienced contractor.
What separates Menards from the competition is our friendly service and the way Customers are treated like family in a hometown hardware store atmosphere!
