Why live in Malton?

Malton is a beautiful market town in North Yorkshire, and it’s become known as Yorkshire’s Food Capital due to its great local produce.

There are good transport links with the local train station providing services that connect to Leeds, York and Scarborough. It’s a great place to commute from as the roads are good too, with the A64 linking Malton to nearby cities. Leeds Bradford Airport is only an hour away so locals have easy access to international travel for holidays or for work.

Malton has a varied selection of independent shops selling everything locals need, including homeware, clothes, flowers, and much more besides.

There’s an incredible selection of high-quality food shops in the town selling wonderful fresh produce. There are fishmongers, butchers, delis, bakeries, greengrocers, and even two micro-breweries. The town also has fantastic food markets and festivals, which are great local events that are not to be missed.

High-quality restaurants provide a good mix of cuisines when heading out for a meal with friends or family. There are cosy, traditional pubs too, with roaring fires to keep out the cold in winter.

Being surrounded by beautiful countryside, there’s much to enjoy nearby. Visit market towns and villages like Helmsley, Pickering and Kirkbymoorside, or head out to the coast as it’s just an hour’s drive from Malton.

In this time there have been some huge interchangeable shifts in the housing market, allowing Steve to adjust and succeed in these differing times and give him a wealth of experience of how to deal with any situation. Steve believes that every business is down to the people who work for him, personable, dedicated staff who have a drive to achieve the best results for their clients, whilst having a passion for property and helping our customers achieve the best possible price for their home. Steve is passionate about the attention to detail and presentation of properties, which combined with the perpetual changes in marketing, this ensures he delivers the best results for his clients.

Local area guide

Malton is a pretty, historic market town in North Yorkshire, surrounded by beautiful countryside and famous for its food. In fact, the town now calls itself Yorkshire’s Food Capital.

Malton has good transport links to Leeds, York and Scarborough, making it an ideal location for families who want to live in a small, beautiful town while having an easy commute to nearby cities. When travelling by car, the A64 links Malton with Leeds, York and Scarborough. The local train station is a Grade II listed building that opened in 1845. Malton’s trainline connects to Scarborough, York, Leeds and Manchester, making them easily accessible when travelling for work or pleasure. For international travel, Leeds Bradford Airport is just an hour away.

Local schools are of a high standard in Malton. Primary education is provided by St Mary's RC Primary School, which has an outstanding rating from Ofsted, and Norton Community Primary School and Malton Community Primary School, which are both rated as good. The two local secondary schools, Malton School and Norton College are also rated as good.

There are great independent homeware shops, like Bowley & Jackson, which sells chic interior items, and Greyhound Antiques, which has a host of unique and interesting finds. There are fantastic florists, beauty parlours, clothes shops and hairdressers, all located in the town centre.

Known as the ‘Food Capital of Yorkshire’, Malton has regular food markets and festivals, as well as fun events like Street Food Sunday. The area is home to two microbreweries, Brass Castle, and Bad Seed, who together host an annual festival called Beertown, which is usually held in May each year. The town is packed with plenty of independent food shops, selling the best produce you’ll find. There are bakeries, greengrocers, delis, butchers, and fishmongers.

Malton’s location gives it access to the best produce around. Fish from the coast, game from the moors, and meat and vegetables from local farms, means that local restaurants and cafes serve up incredible food. There are plenty of different cuisines to enjoy here too, including Italian food from La Pizzeria and Indian food from India the Restaurant. Chapter One Bistro is a buzzing place to enjoy some homemade, seasonal food, made from great produce.

No. 46 Bar & Restaurant is loved by both locals and tourists, and every Friday is burger night, which is always a big hit. The Groovy Moo Fresh Artisan Gelato ice cream parlour is well worth a visit, with a great range of ice cream and sorbet flavours.

The pub scene is strong here with great traditional pubs like The New Malton, which is an 18th-century inn with open fireplaces and good food.

Malton has plenty of local amenities, including supermarkets, banks, a cinema, GP surgeries and Malton Community Hospital.

The nearby North York Moors have beautiful scenery to enjoy, and there are the delightful market towns and villages like Helmsley, Pickering and Kirkbymoorside, just a stone's throw away. Head out to the coast on the weekend as it’s less than an hour away from Malton. Whitby, Bridlington and Scarborough are all popular coastal destinations that make for a great day out or weekend away.
