Markets Around the World Set Records This Quarter
It's not just the S&P 500 that is finishing the first quarter strongly.
Markets are setting fresh records around the globe. Take a look:
The MSCI World Index, which tracks global equities, closed at an all-time high Wednesday then crept lower today.
The Stoxx Europe 600 closed at a new record. It has gained about 7% this year.
France's CAC 40 and Germany's Dax both rose to new records Thursday. (The Dax is a total-return index, so isn't directly comparable to many other benchmarks.)
Australia's S&P/ASX 200 hit an all-time high Thursday.
Japan's Nikkei 225 notched a record high at the end of last week, and has since pulled back about 1.8%.
China is a laggard. The Shanghai Composite is down more than 7% over the past 12 months—and is worth barely half what it fetched at its 2007 peak.
