John Williams made Oscars history—again. The legendary composer beat his own record this season as the most-nominated person alive with his 54th nod, and at 91, he remains the oldest person ever to be nominated for a competitive Oscar. Williams is bested in overall nominations only by Walt Disney, who received 59.

Williams, who’s nominated for best original score for “Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny,” said in 2022 that it could be his last, but late last year teased the possibility of returning to work on future films. “I like to keep an open mind,” he told the Times UK.

His five Oscar wins are for the music from “Fiddler on the Roof” (which he won in 1972), “Jaws” (1976), “Star Wars” (1978), “E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial” (1983) and “Schindler's List” (1994). This year’s nomination marks his third for music from the “Indiana Jones” series. “Dial of Destiny” is the first and only film in the series that isn’t directed by Steven Spielberg or created by George Lucas, though both longtime Williams collaborators executive produced the project.
