WHAT THE CRITCS ARE SAYING ABOUT ‘30 YEARS OF DIRT’

“he’s still got it… a comedy master… a masterclass in crowd work, with Skinner getting spontaneous laughs off every interaction…exquisite one-liners” Steve Bennett, Chortle
“Skinner is never less than beadily alert…you come away happy that after 30 years Frank’s still dishing his dirt, and happier still that he can dish plenty more besides.” Brian Logan, The Guardian
“immaculately constructed…Skinner’s crowdwork is as sharp as ever…he can spool out a yarn every bit as entertainingly as prime-era Billy Connolly.” Bruce Dessau, Evening Standard

Through movement, music and comedy three men and one woman fight and make fun of these labels in an effort to reclaim themselves. This show is for anyone who has ever felt stereotyped or put in a box. For the people who are “too emotional” to be a... who knows? This is for people who wear clothes too baggy to be a.. what? This is a show for people who look too straight to be... Who cares! I’m done with Stereotypes!

AAH!
By Hear No, See No, Speak No (Emily, Madison, Penny):
Do you dare to say her name three times? Will you take the balloon from the clown? Are you going to get in the water with a monster? All good stories start with a terrible decision, don’t they? Meet the characters that haunt your nightmares, and see what happens, because what you see isn’t always what you hear, we shouldn’t always judge a horror story by it’s monster.

‘One of the all time great British stand-ups’ (Stewart Lee) performs a truly unique stand-up show. Using William Blake's poem (B-side to the English national anthem) and The Fall's take on it as a springboard, Simon endeavours to serve up satire, comedy and poetry with one eye on the distant past, and the other locked laser-like on the future.
As he says, it's clearly a recipe for disaster, but what's wrong with that? Something will come of it and you can call it art.

“Listen very carefully. I will say this only once ………..”
After another sell-out Panto in January, Barton Theatre Company returns to The Lowry in May with ‘Allo ‘Allo by Jeremy Lloyd and David Croft.
Based on the hugely successful British television series, which ran for seven seasons, this uproarious comedy tells the adventures of a hapless cafe owner, Rene, in occupied France.
All your favourite TV characters are there in the flesh, including Rene's tone-deaf wife Edith, Major-General von Klinkerhoffen and the Gestapo officer Herr Flick!
Rene and his wife have stashed a priceless portrait, stolen by the Nazis, in a sausage in their cellar, where two British airmen are also hiding until the Resistance can repatriate them.
Communications with London, using a wireless disguised as a cockatoo, add to the many embarrassments this intrepid proprietor endures in the company of his patrons.
News that the Führer is scheduled to visit the town inspires tricksters disguised as Hitler to frequent the cafe. Meanwhile, Rene summons all the wit he can muster to save his café and his life.

Mysterious and virtuosic solos and groups connect and communicate in a rich and sensuous landscape of light, video, sound, and movement, creating new connections between humans: not building on logical precision, but rediscovering traditional Asian values. Six exquisite dancers create delicate scenes where memories of ancient systems offer a key to the future. Cheok is the traditional Asian standard of measurement, meaning ‘span of the hand.’ Resisting the uniformity of society, this personal and individual measurement is the guiding principle of renowned Korean Choreographer Ae-soon Ahn’s visually enticing reflection of the nature of precision.

A woman longing for her lover; a wronged wife plotting her revenge; a squaddie traumatised by war. Love, laughter, tears, and treachery. And a touch of murder. Whatever life brings us, the ancient Greeks have the right words for it.
Dame Siân Phillips and Alex Jennings breathe majestic life into Zeus, Hera, Oedipus, and Medea, among others, in David Stuttard’s sparkling translations. As they navigate through youthful high jinks, adult chaos, and the preoccupations of old age, their wit and wisdom are a road map for our modern age.
Directed by Stuttard, this Olivier Award-winning duo give voice to stories, scenes, and poems from ancient Greece, works that feel so modern they might have been written yesterday, which – profound or poignant, fast moving, funny, or at times downright preposterous – help make sense of our lives today.
The performance will be followed by an audience Q&A with the performers and the director.

In 2021 Richard Herring went to his GP to find out why his right ball seemed to be growing bigger. It turned out that he had testicular cancer and one month later he was lying in hospital waiting to have his murderous gonad removed. Would he survive? (No spoilers!).
For a comedian who had done a whole show on male genitalia (Talking Cock) and written a book about toxic masculinity (The Problem With Men) this felt like some cruel trick of fate.
In his much-anticipated return to stand-up after six years, Richard talks bollocks and answers the question on everyone's lips: Is a severed gonad in a jar a fitting prize to bring in for Taskmaster?

He Loves, He Loves Me Not. Authentic voices and lived experiences. Fifteen-year-old, Lexi and her siblings battle through stereotypes from their teachers whilst attempting to break free from generational trauma. Their mother has their self-esteem on the floor -the perfect conditions for Donnell, an exploitative man to enter Lexi’s life and throw her and her friend into a whirlwind of manipulation, exploitation, and coercive control.
A realist story of heroes and villains and community casualties and victims - a creative response to raising awareness of CCE and CSE.
Warning: some scenes may be upsetting. Minimum age 13. Pejorative and foul language.
Written and directed by Anthea Cribbin, co-directed by the young people and community of Gorse Hill Studios.
By Helen Edmundson
Based on the novel by Jamila Gavin
Angels and abandoned children, glorious music and murder most foul whirl through this enthralling, moving and richly colourful tale of 18th century England.
At Gloucester Cathedral, Alexander Ashbrook, heir to an aristocratic estate, has his heart set on becoming a composer; but his stern father refuses to listen and despite his love for the beautiful Melissa, flight seems his only option. Far darker conflicts are at play for Meshak, son of the brutal Otis Gardiner who preys on young unmarried mothers – promising to deliver their babies to Coram’s new Foundling Hospital but instead meting out a terrible fate.
Their stories entwine eight years later in London, where two Coram orphans, Toby and Aaron, find themselves on parallel adventures, and the great Handel is at work on a new score, Messiah, embodying the hope of love and salvation over evil.
Helen Edmundson's adaptation of Jamila Gavin's Whitbread Award-winning novel premiered at the National Theatre in 2005 before transferring to Broadway. Nominated for several Olivier and Tony Awards, it won the Time Out Live Award for Best Play. Anna Ledwich, formerly writer in residence at CFT (Pinocchio) and Artistic Director of Theatre on the Fly (2012), whose recent directorial work includes Anthropology (Hampstead), directs.
This production has occasional mildly suggestive language; themes of child infanticide and exploitation, abuse towards women and disability in 18th century England; and depictions of childbirth and violence including hanging, knife fights, murder and drowning.

A celebration of the wonderful musical talents of primary school aged children from across the Salford Community
Children from across Salford have been taking part in Whole Class Instrumental Tuition through our Music and Performing Arts Service (MAPAS).
Children have been learning musical instruments together as part of their whole class activities, and also learning to play together in an ensemble. This is a fantastic opportunity for them to develop confidence, work together as a team and build their wellbeing, as well as learning lifelong musical skills.
We are celebrating the children’s amazing achievements by bringing them all together as one. Children will perform pieces they have been working on in class, and will also join together to sing and play in a massed performance.
Each school has been allocated their own slot on a particular day and time, so if in doubt, please check with your child’s school to ensure you book tickets for the right event.

"Brave Space" is an impulsive congregation in the tiniest of tents. Starting as a puddle of fabric on the floor, it grows to encompass a world of wondrous circus. Intimate and low tech, we invite the audience to sit nose-to-nose with an all-female cast to build the world we want to live in, even for only a few shared moments.
Inspired by the idea of creating community in divisive times, and designed to be able to pop-up almost anywhere. Brave Space requires 100% trust between performers and audience as together we physically construct the show and keep the artists aloft.
This performance takes place in the Scene Dock between The Lyric and The Quays Theatres.

Rambert’s thrilling stage adaptation “The Redemption of Thomas Shelby” captures the Peaky story, with stunning performances from Rambert’s dancers and an iconic soundtrack from a live on-stage band.
Opening in the trenches of Flanders, a personal story unfolds in post-war industrial Birmingham as the Shelby family navigate the decisions that determine their fate and Tommy is intoxicated by mysterious newcomer, Grace. While Tommy is building his empire, Grace is operating as an undercover agent for Special Branch on a mission to get close to the heart of Tommy’s gang. As the story unfolds, hearts are broken, and revenge is sought.
Spectacular dramatization and breath-taking dance is heightened by a live on-stage band performing specially commissioned music by Roman GianArthur and iconic Peaky tracks from Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds, Radiohead, Anna Calvi, The Last Shadow Puppets, Frank Carter & The Rattlesnakes and Black Rebel Motorcycle Club.
Throughout Rambert’s packed-out UK theatre tour, long-time fans of the TV show and audiences coming to Peaky fresh, were united in their enthusiasm for this adaptation written by the series’ creator Steven Knight with direction and choreography by Rambert’s Artistic Director Benoit Swan Pouffer.
“Rambert… an independent dance company, dedicated to bringing dance to the people. I’m a patron, we share a philosophy.” Tommy Shelby S5, Ep 4
“Peaky Blinders has always had music and movement at its heart and now the beating heart of the show will be transferred to the stage, an interpretation of Tommy’s story performed by Rambert, one of the leading dance companies in the world. This is dance for people who don’t usually watch dance and what I’ve written has been transformed into something startling by consummate dancers and choreographers. If the concept of a Peaky Blinders dance seems strange, reserve judgement and reserve a ticket.” Steven Knight, creator and writer of Peaky Blinders

Ned Boulting returns again! But this time he’s 101 years too late for the 1923 Tour de France!
In his latest celebration of the greatest race on earth, Ned delves into the hidden mysteries of a mysterious roll of film from the 1923 Tour de France that fell into his possession during the Covid pandemic, and inspired his bestselling book "1923!”
Part detective story, part murder mystery, part costume drama, part French farce, Ned weaves his own typically ridiculous story into the astonishing discoveries he makes about the hidden world of the 1923 Tour de France, its characters and tragedies, and ties it all together with the wild upheavals of Europe in-between the wars.
And along the way, in an evening's odyssey, he draws a connection between the heroes of yesteryear and the champions of today, from Cavendish to Pogačar and beyond! It’s a touching, hilarious, fascinating journey that bounces between the centuries, but always has Le Tour at its very heart.
It’s hard to believe that it has been three years since Ant has been on stage in the UK with his Zero Negativity Tour in 2021, and yet within that time it has been both a tumultuous and exhilarating ride.
This year, Ant Middleton returns to the UK stage to talk all things K2; from the gut-wrenching experience of leaving his family to travel to one of the most dangerous mountains in the world - and the consecutive obstacles he had to surmount - to the summit itself. This will be an emotive look into the journey which was both life affirming and defining.
From the glitz and glamour of Dancing with the Stars in Australia, the stunning and dangerous stunts of SAS: Australia, to the skills and emotional intelligence developed during his time served in the Special Forces; this new and raw behind the scenes look at the summit to K2 is an exploration of the self which reveals a side of Ant that will surpass anything you ever expected.
Speaking about the tour Ant said: “Having travelled extensively since my last UK tour - spending time in Australia working on some incredible shows and stage tours - it feels good to finally get my boots on the ground, take a beat, and spend some time on home soil.
So much has happened in that time; my life and career has continued to grow, flourish and evolve. I have worked relentlessly on shows such as SAS: Australia to make it hugely popular and successful, with each series outperforming the last.
And of course I had the honour to summit K2. It was by far one of the biggest achievements of my life to date; turning the love for my family into my strength to power me home from this perilous trip, this tour is my opportunity to finally tell my story.
Using unseen exclusive footage, journeying from fear to elation, I will tell my story of how I used everything I had - from all my life experiences to date - to make it back home.”

Spend a delicious evening with the inimitable chef and restaurateur Yotam Ottolenghi, celebrating the release of his highly anticipated new cookbook, Comfort, Ottolenghi’s most personal work since his era-defining publications, Simple and Flavour.
Live on stage, alongside one of his co-authors, Yotam will share expert tips on infusing your kitchen with the unmistakable Ottolenghi flare, creating comforting meals that burst with colour, flavour, bounty and sunshine.
Hosted by a very special guest at each show, they will explore the inspiration behind Comfort. Yotam will recount stories of his childhood, travels and home, and how he translated these formative experiences into evocative comfort recipes: each a celebration of the connections we make through cooking, and the cherished traditions passed from generation to generation.
With the opportunity to ask Yotam your own questions, these unique live events bridge the gap between the author and the audience, promising to be a one-of-a-kind tour that goes beyond the pages of Comfort.
A feast for the senses and the soul, The Comfort Tour is too delicious to miss!

MARK RADCLIFFE AND MARC RILEY IN
CARRY ON
AN AUDIENCE WITH MARK AND LARD
The 24th March 2004 saw the world heritage radio site of the ‘Mark and Lard Show’ come to an end with a resounding: ‘STOP…!’
Now fully twenty-one years later we can finally complete that catchphrase with an equally resounding: ‘…CARRY ON!’
Like the day Neil Armstrong stepped on to the moon (if you were born then, if not, skip this bit) or when Alan Bradley got run over by a Blackpool tram on Coronation Street (ditto) – everybody can remember where they were on that fateful day in Radio 1 history. Listening to the radio. Obviously.
Now, following high level negotiations after a chance meeting between Fat Harry White and Scoff Cruddle at a Bedford Rascal Enthusiasts rally, Mark and Marc have been coaxed back to wrestle once again on the sheepskin rug of light entertainment.
The ordeal will begin at 7.30 pm assuming everyone gets their act together.
You know when you're trying to wee on a night out, and you're interrupted by a random girl who insists on telling you all her secrets even though you've never met? Imagine that, but she has a microphone.
After two critically acclaimed sell-out runs at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe and a sold-out Soho Theatre run, Edinburgh Comedy Award Best Show 2023 nominee Ania Magliano is back on tour.
‘Consistently amusing and deceptively daring' (**** Times' Top 4 Best Comedy Shows 2023).
***** (Telegraph)
**** (Guardian, Evening Standard, Time Out).
Writer for Amelia Dimoldenberg.
Ania’s choices on Off Menu are widely regarded as the worst of all time.
Russell Hicks heads out on his first tour, but not his first rodeo. (Warning: This is a stand up show. NOT a rodeo.) Russell Hicks is here to stay and he really is happy to be here. So, why don’t British People believe him?
Hot off the back of a starring role in an Amazon Prime show that nobody watched, and was cancelled immediately, American Stand Up comedian Russell Hicks, lives in the UK where he allegedly performs stand-up comedy. Naturally, his parents still think he makes his money through some kind of illegal activity, so buy some tickets and help prove his legitimacy!
You may have heard Russell as the voice of Sky Comedy, seen him entertain studio audiences at ‘Have I Got News for You’ or caught him opening for the likes of Al Murray or ‘Britain’s Got Talent’ winner Axel Blake. He’s performed up and down this country, picking up three Leicester Festival nominations along the way. He’s even been officially declared a Global Talent by Arts Council England.
Known for his improvised performances, Russell Hicks has amassed millions of views online, and gained a devoted following of fans who’ve come to know that no two shows will be the same. Considered one of the best improvisers in the country, Russell has appeared on some of the UK’s biggest networks. He has starred in several episodes of ITV’s ‘Stand Up Sketch Show,’ and won the Channel 4 competition series ‘Captive Audience’ with his fully improvised comedy, and starred in Prime Video series ‘Lovestruck High’ narrated by Lindsay Lohan as the loveable Texan Coach Hughes.

Still gigging to sell-out crowds forty years later, Jenny invites you to look back at what she can remember before she forgets everything. Warning, punk poetry, animal impressions and baritone nursery rhyme singing may feature.

A Cuban take on the favourite festive classic, Carlos Acosta’s brand-new production
Nutcracker in Havana explodes onto The Lowry stage, featuring new choreography by Carlos Acosta CBE performed by more than 20 dancers from his Cuban company, Acosta Danza.
Set to an exuberant Cuban newly commissioned version of the magnificent Tchaikovsky score, arranged by Cuban composer Pepe Gavilondo, the timeless story is brought to life with ballet at its core, enriched with Acosta Danza’s unique style and with Cuban dance traditions beautifully woven throughout the much-loved and joyful family tale.
Join Clara in her humble home in Havana, getting ready to celebrate Christmas with her family. The beer cans are on the tree and Cuba is suitably hot. When Clara is gifted a Nutcracker doll she embarks on the journey of a lifetime, to defeat the Rat King and into the world of the Sugar Plum Fairy accompanied by her Nutcracker Prince.
With spectacular video projection and set design by Nina Dunn (9to5 Musical, Bonnie and Clyde, BRB’s Don Quixote), Cuba collides with the Land of Sweets, bringing snow to Havana. With lighting by Andrew Exeter (Oti Mabuse: I Am Here, The Full Monty UK Tour, Johannes Radebe: House of JoJo) and costumes by Angelo Alberto (costume designer for Goyo Montero’s ‘Imponderable’ and Raul Reinoso’s ‘Satori’ with Acosta Danza) Nutcracker in Havana is a visually stunning spectacular treat for all.
For dance fans around the globe, Carlos is an international superstar of the classical ballet world. Born in Havana and trained at the National School of Ballet in Cuba, he went on to dance professionally with the world’s most prestigious companies, with London’s Royal Ballet becoming his home. Having tackled huge titles throughout his career, from Carmen to Don Quixote, Nutcracker in Havana is an opportunity for Acosta to fuse this festive treat with a little Havana heat.

In this brand new show, Lee shares his stage with a tough-talking werewolf comedian from the dark forests of North America who hates humanity. The Man-Wulf lays down a ferocious comedy challenge to the culturally irrelevant and physically enfeebled Lee. Can the beast inside us all be silenced with the silver bullet of Lee's unprecedentedly critically acclaimed style of stand-up?
Stewart Lee ("The world's greatest living stand-up comedian" The Times), is in danger of being left behind. He's approaching sixty with debilitating health conditions, his TV profile has diminished, and his once BAFTA award-winning style of stand-up seems obsolete. But can Lee unleash his inner Man-Wulf to position himself alongside comedy legends like Dave Chappelle, Ricky Gervais and Jordan Peterson at the forefront of side-splitting stadium-stuffing shit-posting?

Tom’s funny and today’s funny don’t always see eye to eye, but that’s cool; it’s not Tom’s way to follow the herd. He much prefers to take the path less travelled (some smart guy once said that).
Join this independent spirit and irrepressible force of nature, as he airdrops his ingenious and unflinching comedy into an ever-changing minefield.
It’s a risky business navigating the tightrope of today’s times but Tom’s approaching it with his usual gusto. Without risk there is no reward.

Radio 4 favourite, comedy legend, and ‘the 42nd best reason to love Britain’ (The Telegraph) JOHN SHUTTLEWORTH, is back with more hilarious stories and songs performed on his trusty Yamaha organ (with built-in auto accompaniment!) In RAISE THE OOF John celebrates 40 years in showbiz. Yes, it was 1985 when he met TV’s Clarinet Man - next door neighbour Ken Worthington who came last on New Faces in 73 (Tony Hatch crucified him!)
“When I met Ken he was eating a CurlyWurly” recalls John, “although initially I thought it was a packet of sparklers, so I gave him a wide berth”, and the rest, as they say, is hysterical!
“ Actually, I feel rather calm” muses John, “although after forty years and still no chart success, perhaps I should be slightly anxious. My wife Mary says I should get a proper job, but there's not time - I'm about to retire! Besides, Comet - where I used to demonstrate audio equipment - no longer exists. As for the sweet factory in the Rotherham area where I worked as a security guard in the 1980's - that’s now an Axe Throwing Centre. Oof!"
But I'm still posting off my songs (on cassette tape with Dolby so it's not too hissy) to cutting edge pop acts like Chris Rea and the Lighthouse Family, plus I'm still being booked for nostalgic singalongs at the local hospice (for petrol money only) so we have every reason to celebrate my long and illustrious career. Do come along and join me in punching the air, and helping - in an orderly and controlled fashion - to RAISE THE OOF!

At sea, the captain of a ship is cursed along with his crew to wander the ocean until Judgement Day.
On land, a woman dreams of escape from a world where vision and compassion are reduced to shabby deals. She is obsessed with the legend of the Flying Dutchman, whose soul only love can redeem from the purgatory of his ceaseless voyaging. Will Senta and the Dutchman bring each other salvation or catastrophe?
Although not his first opera, Wagner regarded The Flying Dutchman as the true beginning of his artistic voyage, and it is in many ways the ideal introduction to his musical universe. From the bracing horn calls that set the propulsive drama in motion to the resplendent final moments of transfiguration, you’ll be swept away by this thrilling, tempestuous music drama in a new production directed by Annabel Arden and designed by Joanna Parker (Andrea Chénier, Turandot, Aida).
