Summary
Tim had never really been lonely. Sure, his parents were busy and often passed eachother, and sometimes him, on the way in and out of Drake Manor; but he was never quite alone. They couldn't hire a nanny without risking Tim, but that didn't matter in the end.
Okay, okay. He knows it sounds like he's deluding himself, but the proof was currently sitting on his counter, looking around and scowling.
They were wearing raggedy old clothes, had oil smeared on their hands, and had hair that was halfway between lengths. They were scowling at the room, especially Tim.
"The hell are you looking at me for?" Tim's only response was to take a long sip of coffee. "Better question: The fuck am I doing here?"
Tim scanned the newest addition again as Thimble skipped into the room, wearing a purple dress Steph would approve of and clutching her Strawberry Shortcake doll. Newbie saw the doll and shrunk at bit.
Tim sighed; of course it was another sad one.

He watched Gotham's vigilantes even after Dick moved to Bludhaven and Jason became Robin. he continued to watch even after Jason died. He continued to watch as Batman spiraled. He continued to watch as Jason came back as a crime lord under his killer's old name. He continued to watch as Damian appeared, Bruce's biological child. He continued to watch as more and more members of the bat colony showed up.
Tim just watched.

Summary
It was childish impulse that started Tim Drake's relationship with Batman. A note here and there from a mind that moved too fast and a child who knew too much. It starts with Tim, his eidetic memory, and the desperate need to shake Bruce Wayne into saving Tim's Robin from the Joker. It ends with Cassandra Cain, usurping the league of assassins, and finding out that the Justice League is getting involved in his carefully crafted life of shadows.
Or
Tim Drake becomes a Gotham cryptid, Batman informant, adopts a sister, experiences most forms of pain, and gets adopted himself before ever having a conversation with his new parent. Go him!

Tim jumped, startling the bird even farther from his touch when he spun on his heel. A small, tan boy was glaring up at him with brilliantly green eyes. It only took a second to place him: Damian Wayne, the newest Robin. The one with a sword and ties to the League of Assassins.
“Yeah,” he said after a minute. He wasn’t sure what to feel. This newest Robin wasn’t his favourite, but he definitely didn’t dislike him. (He was a little scared of him, actually.) -

NOT CANONICAL AT ALL. I tweaked (and outright slaughtered) the general perceptions of many characters (because its FanFic and I’m allowed to project goddamnit).
A story about Tim as he grows up in a catholic home. He struggles with catholic guilt, his sexuality and gender expression, self-loathing brought on by his ideas of societal and religious expectations along with disassociation. Kinda heavy, actually. Almost a character introspection but not canonical at all so I don't know if it counts. It jumps around ages (flashbacks and just general insights into his childhood) a lot and isn't outright specific sometimes (I love writing vagally lol). I don't know if I’ll do a ship but if I do it will be with a male (perhaps Kon or someone similar) (just to torment him even more). No real plot just sad heavy stuff. I usually only write happy endings though so no worries! Batfam will be incorporated at some point (probably mainly Cassandra if I’m honest, I love their relationship) but it might be a bit because this is centered more on Tim alone than his relations with (in this fic good healthy) people. Based on my experiences :) -

He wasn’t expecting this dogfighting ring to be using actual people for it. At one end of the arena, there were two men that rivaled Bane in the muscle and height category, heads and identities obscured by pup hoods that were oddly fitting for the occasion.
There were yet to be signs of a hare.
Jason did not like the implications that he was seeing here. He casually leaned against the railing, metal of his hood brushing the chainlink of the fencing keeping the ‘dogs’ from the spectators and squinted, trying to pick apart the scene for more information.Or: Red Hood finds a very interesting dogfighting ring where instead of using animals, they're using people. Oh, and did he forget to mention that tonight was a specialty event modified after hare coursing? With a very unwilling rabbit?

Long story short; Tim Drake never became Robin. But no one ever said that Tim needed to be Robin. With his unquenchable thirst for detective work, his Batfamily fanboying and his general lack of self-preservation, sitting idly by while his vigilantes saved Gotham was never even an option.
And yet, this isn't even Tim's story, not quite; it's everyone else's. After all, Tim's never been the hero of his own story; he's just the guy on the sidelines moving other stories along.
