Just got an email - about big announcement tomorrow - seems to be a soccer game - would be happier if it was that Mitchell wasn’t leaving!

Yes, our stadium will be hosting a soccer match, but it’s impossible to glean any clues as they mixed contradictory terms. On one hand, they bill the match as “international” which suggests national teams. On the other hand, they describe it as “professional” soccer which suggests club teams.
My guess is that it will be club teams from Europe on a US summer tour. Given the fanfare and suspense, I am expecting some top division teams, but it’d also be unusual for top quality teams to come to SB with a rather modest facilities. But my crazy guess would be Liverpool due to the Peter Moore connection. Another guess might be Wrexham.

Nevermind on Liverpool as they start their US tour July 26 in Pittsburg followed by a match in Philly on July 31.
Would have been a big deal… wasn’t really realistic!

My Wrexham guess (Peter Moore also affiliated with Wrexham) is still in play!
On a very recent Men in Blazers podcast, their GM said they would be touring the West Coast this summer with venues announced shortly.

About a year ago, I posted about Wrexham’s connection to SB.
Aside from watching the FX docuseries, I follow Wrexham (the their famous owners) pretty closely on social media and am aware of their results (two consecutive promotions!).

Anyway, it’s gotta be Wrexham, right? Their connections here, the fact that they will soon announce their west coast tour, and the fact that they’re not too big a club to play at a non-MLS venue. I just hope they play a decent club.
One more thing… ucsb is announcing this at 7 AM? Why would that be? Because it will coincide with a team from a distant time zone, like Europe!

It's NOT them, but I remember Chelsea did a west coast tour in 2022 (UCLA, Dodger Stadium).
So it’s not an announcement that our men’s hoops team is going to play a Power 4 school at home lol

I think the "big announcement"is that Donovan Clingan of Uconn is entering "the portal" and is transferring to UCSB hoping to get more playing time during his last 2 years of eligibility !Dave4SB wrote:So it’s not an announcement that our men’s hoops team is going to play a Power 4 school at home lol
