How much dedicated memory does Intel 4600 HD graphics have? I'm thinking of buying the i5 4400 processor for medium level gaming.

Yes, I'm aware that the maximum is 1.7 GB. I wanted to play Star Wars: The Old Republic but apparently the game starts only if the internal graphics has a dedicated memory of at least 256 MB (though I need confirmation of this). So basically even if I have 8 GB of RAM sitting on my motherboard, SW:TOR won't start unless the integrated graphics itself has 256 MB.

Is there any way to determine what its dedicated memory is? By medium level I mean playing at medium to low settings at 720p (games like NFS: The Run, SW:TOR, Mass Effect, Dragon Age, etc)

I tried running Star Wars: The Old Republic on my current laptop and when I clicked 'Play' it said that it was incompatible.

I have Intel HD Graphics. Sadly, the game seems to only be taking the 'dedicated' memory into consideration and not the shared memory. Is there a way to force the game to take the shared memory into account as well?

How do I know if the i5 4440 good enough to run the game? How do I find out how much dedicated memory the 4600 graphics has? I wouldn't want a repeat of this incident to occur once I've made the purchase.

Would you suggest going for the AMD A8-6600K instead of the i5 processor?

game-debate.com shows that I can in fact run Star Wars: The Old Republic using intel HD graphics and there have been players who have run the game using even intel hd 3000.

I'll take a look at that guide and get back to you.

Ok. Here are the answers:

Approximate purchase date - this month
Budget Range - INR 25,000
System usage - Gaming, browsing, watching videos
Buying monitor - No

Parts to upgrade - New motherboard, new processor, new GPU
Need to buy OS - No
Preferred website - www.flipkart.com
Location - Bangalore, India
Part preference - none as such
Overclocking - Maybe
SLI or Crossfire - Maybe
Monitor 1024 x 768
Reason for upgrade - Play games at medium to low settings. 720p is sufficient. Not looking for high settings, moderate is fine.
Games - Star Wars: The Old Republic, COD, Battlefield, Mass Effect, Assassin's Creed (latest ones)

I was just checking if this rig could run Assassin's Creed Unity but it's not matching even the minimum requirements on game-debate.com. I've ordered the same as PC as you suggested except that I'll be going for the i3-4150 instead of the i3-4130

Just saw this video on Youtube (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W0JEAsZVTpk) and if that guy can run Unity on an Intel i3-2120 processor, I should be able to run it too on the i3-4150 with the same GPU he's using (GTX 750 Ti 2GB). Moreover, he has only 6GB RAM while mine would have 8GB RAM.

Guess I'm gonna go ahead and buy this game.

QUESTION: can I run 3 Monitors on the Intel(R) HD Graphics 4600 VGA output with a VGA splitter?

The splitter will only mirror the output. You would need to get a different gpu for that configuration.

I play SWTOR on a Latitude E6440 that has 8GB RAM and the 4600 HD chip. Works fine. I've bumped the graphics up with no complaint but game play suffers (obviously) so I play in the lower graphics mode.

And yes, I realize this is a necro, but it comes up high in google results so having currently accurate information shouldn't be something that upsets people.
