About
With the Pantheon, architect Jacques-Germain Soufflot met Louis XV’s wish to glorify the monarchy in the form of a church dedicated to Saint Geneviève, the patron saint of Paris. The edifice was deconsecrated during the Revolution in 1791 and renamed the Pantheon. During the turbulent years of the 19th century, as regimes changed, it alternated in its role as a religious and patriotic monument. Since 1885, the year of Victor Hugo’s death and burial in the Pantheon, it has been the last resting place for the great writers, scientists, generals, churchmen and politicians who have made the history of France. The crypt houses the tombs of more than 70 illustrious figures including Voltaire, Jean-Jacques Rousseau, Emile Zola, Alexandre Dumas, Pierre and Marie Curie etc.Open:> 1st April to 30th September: from 10 a.m. to 6.30 p.m.> 1st October to 31st March: from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Last admission 45 minutes before closing time. Impressive monument
Despite many previous trips to Paris, this was the first time I'd been to the Pantheon. It is a very impressive monument with a crypt containing tombs of many prominent French citizens including Rousseau, Dumas and Zola. I did not book tickets in advance and there was just a five-minute wait to enter, the main hold-up being the security check.

Most beautiful city in the world. Best view in the world.
Ganesh Irissane helped me a lot. He was of great service. He needs a big pay rise! He went beyond everything that was asked of him. I wish him well. He is a top guy. I appreciated his help a lot. He put a personal touch on an experience that could have been quite sterile.

    Worthwhile Visit
This is a worthwhile place to visit in Paris for a number of reasons. One, it is a physically beautiful edifice both inside and out. Two, it is the final resting place for dozens of important Frenchmen and Frenchwomen. Three, its interior still retains vestiges of the church it was (Eglise Ste Genevieve). Four, the view from the cupola is wonderful (extra charge though). Five, it contains fabulous paintings and frescoes. Finally, it stands as a testament to the country of contrasts that France remains: a modern, secular state with a long, intriguing and often volatile history; a nation upon which centuries of religious turmoil, revolution, war, victory and defeat, glory and shame, triumph and tragedy, have all left an indelible mark. Where else would one find wall sized paintings of Joan of Arc steps away from a monument glorifying the godless National Convention of the revolution? The greatest irony for me was that this converted church, this secular building, this temple of republican ideals, is adorned at its peak with what?..... a cross.

    Interesting; not a must see
There was no wait time with the Paris Museum Pass. It is an interesting building, with the Foucault's pendulum taking the center stage. The crypt below is interesting with many notable scientists buried there. It takes about an hour to see everything.

    Beautiful building
The Pantheon was one of our favourite attractions in Paris. There was quite a long queue due to only allowing a certain number of people in a time. We also booked the dome too which they give you a set time for. The pantheon has some interactive information panels. It was very interesting seeing and reading about Foucault's pendulum. There is also a crypt to visit with the tombs of Marie Curie, Victor Hugo and other famous French figures. The tour of the Dome had some fantastic views and there were information boards pointing out the different landmarks. I would definitely recommend here to anybody visiting Paris.

Worth a visit, maybe budget 2 hrs
Enjoyed going to the Pantheon, would recommend going once. The staff were all very nice. The audio guide is worth it as it has a lot of info, although had no earbuds so you constantly have to hold it up to your ear like a phone, it gets a tad tiring. The crypt was solemn and it was nice to pay my respects. Marie Curie and Victor Hugo are both laid to rest there, along with many others. I'd recommend spending 2hrs tops at the Pantheon.

    Paris Pantheon Must See
My son (16) and I enjoyed the Pantheon. This was my 4th time to Paris and his first. I bought tickets about 2 months in advance. The Pantheon contains the tombs of Marie and Pierre Curie, Victor Hugo, Alexandre Dumas, and Voltaire. (Paris-pantheon.fr). There are also beautiful paintings of Joan of Arc, Charlemagne being crowned by the Pope, and many more. A definite must see for history and art lovers.

The Pantheon is impressive in its size and opulence. The building was a former Christian Church before it was repurposed by the State after the French Revolution and made into a state nationalist symbol. So there is lots of patriotic stuff decor and several famous French notables are interned here in the crypt. There is not much to read here so after a stroll around the inside of the building not much more time is needed. On the list of things to do in Paris, I put this somewhere near the bottom as there are so many monumental structures in this town that one could skip this attraction without feeling they missed much. It does cost 11 euros to enter and if you want to go on the roof (which should have a great view of Paris) if cost an extra 9 euros.

If you do go to the Pantheon, make an effort to get to the Luxembourg Gardens only a few blocks away.

Fascinating and comprehensive audio guide that demonstrates various aspects of France’s interesting past, from monarchy to revolution to imperial rule. I didn’t have to queue for very long to buy tickets as I had not pre-purchased but recommend you do this as you can skip the line. The frescoes around the main area and spinning ball are really curious and have a great history to them, this is almost matched by the detail on everyone buried in the crypt below the main stunning, converted cathedral interior. Spent about 2-3 hours listening to the audio guide, highly recommend.

The Parthenon build to commentate France’s eminent generals and citizens is breathtaking. The walls are painted with murals from floor to ceiling and altar is flanked by magnificent statues. In the crypt below are the tombs if many French luminaries including Braille, Marie Curie, Victor Hugo, Emile Zola and many military leaders.
I would highly recommend visiting.

The Pantheon (originally the Church of Sainte-Geneviève) is a massive building with a crypt as the final resting place of some of the most famous and illustrious people in history including Marie Curie, Victor Hugo, and my favorite, Voltaire.

Another impressive sight is the Foucault Pendulum, which is right in the center of the building. Just follow the crowd.

Despite the grand atmosphere, the atmosphere felt indifferent; there were no placards explaining the context of the paintings and statues, which I guess is why audio guides are available to purchase for a small fee.

In the crypt, there are no plaques highlighting who is buried where and their achievements. There is a computer where you can look up notables and read about their accomplishments, available in a few languages.

This is worth a visit, just for the crypt and pendulum alone, but the Pantheon in Rome remains my favorite.

The Pantheon in Paris might be considered an architectural wonder. The dome, the pillars, the layout, and the catacombs offer both beauty and variety. The crypts for France's luminaries truly take one back in time and can be somewhat chilling. The numerous paintings and sculptures are marvelous. This is certainly one my favorite buildings in an architectural rich Paris. Must see!

I really love the Pantheon, this was my second visit. The history is so interesting. I definitely recommend getting the audio guide to help with the history. The building is a great representation of the juxtaposition between secularism and religion in France. The Crypt below is a must see with Voltaire, Marie Curie, Dumas, Zola, etc. I feel like this is a Paris sight that gets slept on by first time tourists, but if you are a history person, this is worth it.

Imposing building with a beautifully decorated interior. Many awesome frescoes and statues decorate the main high nave. A crypt is also found here for those who want to see the grave of some French historical people. Its construction started in the middle of the 18th century, and it started as a church, but later on, during the French Revolution, it received the name of Pantheon when it was consecrated to important French citizens. The architecture is an example of neoclassical style. Fast access with the Paris Museum pass. Narrow toilettes in site. I spent roughly an hour visiting this building.

An amazing landmark of the city. The Panthéon's neoclassical dome stands out as one of the most recognizable icons in the skyline of Paris. Originally a church and now a mausoleum that since 1791 has served as the resting place of some of France's greatest thinkers, including Voltaire, Jean-Jacques Rousseau, Louis Braille, Alexandre Dumas and Victor Hugo.
This impressive architectural masterpiece certainly worth a wander.

We used Tiqets to get last minute tickets online, avoiding the somewhat long line at the front. The Pantheon is beautiful and fascinating. We loved the Pendulum, which the audio guide (3 euros) explained showed the rotation of the earth. Unearthly music played as we walked around, appreciating the artwork which told the history of the France. In the Crypt below, we saw the resting places of Victor Hugo, Voltaire, and many more. We could have spent hours here; it was sad that we only had one hour. The plaza out front was beautiful as well.

This is an impressive sight. We did expect it to be. But the size of it is just staggering. But then again: Architect Soufflot’s ambition was to outdo the churches of St. Peter's in Rome and St. Paul’s in London. The monumental peristyle was inspired by the Pantheon commissioned by Agrippa in Rome.

And did he succeed in that. It's an amazing sight. When you walk towards it and it just keeps getting bigger with each step you get closer. A beautiful building.

Inside the tombs there are the eminent personalities interred in the crypt who shaped France's national identity.

It was in the late afternoon, just after a rainstorm and there were only few visitors when the sun broke through the clouds. We didn't have time to go inside, but that's surely something to do next time in Paris.
