그녀 잉그리드 버그만, Ингрид Бергман: В её собственных словах
"These tests with Vicky were the first time that we ever shot her on film, and it reminded me of a great documentary called Ingrid Bergman: In Her Own Words..."
—Paul Thomas Anderson talking about Vicky Krieps in Phantom Thread, and killing me instantly by merging all my niche interests into one sentence.
Ingrid Bergman: In Her Own Words. 2015. Directed by Stig Bjorkman
A truly revealing documentary about the woman not the icon. A seven time Oscar Nominee and three time winner, Ingrid Bergman’s dynamic adventure as an actor, mother, and survivor (breast cancer, discrimination, scandals, and expectations). This is truly revelatory.
"He filmed me. Now I film the world."
I cried about twenty times over the course of this! It's so spectacularly well-made (the Michael Nyman score...I didn't ask for that) and filled with amazing home footage, but what touched me most was the letters and diary entries. I can't articulate how surreal it is to hear someone who you admire so much (and practically worship in the way that is so easy to do when it comes to iconic movie stars) communicate thoughts that are almost identical to ones that you have had yourself. It creates a sort of connection that I rarely find with people I don't know personally, and I'm so thankful for the chance to get a glimpse into Ingrid's interior life
it's too bad I couldn't see most of the film (people in front of me were blocking the screen) because I really love Ingrid and was looking forward to watching this documentary. if anyone knows where to find this please let me know!
This was so raw, vulnerable, honest, and beautiful. Ingrid Bergman had always been frank and candid about her life, and very unapologetic. She lived the life she wanted with no regrets and not a single f*ck given to what other people think. She was determined and passionate. Sure she had flaws, she knew it and she embraced it. That’s what I love about her so much.
I love how she documented every single thing of her life, to be able to hear her own words throughout so many stages of her life was incredible. Seeing these footages of home-videos, letters, films, interviews, only makes me admire her even more because it shows just how real she was.
Happy Birthday, Ingrid Bergman ❤️

Blind spot here: For whatever reason, my passion for Golden Age Hollywood doesn't extend to an interest in the personal lives of its major players. I don't read actor/director biographies, and I couldn't get into You Must Remember This despite its obvious excellence (plus my being a big fan of Longworth's writing). In terms of access, this documentary is a treasure trove—Bergman shot an insane amount of home-movie footage (especially for the era), and she also wrote tons of letters and diary entries. But virtually all of it is focused on her kids, and I ultimately just don't care much about Ingrid Bergman, Doting But Largely Absent Mother (and less still about Ingrid Bergman, Homewrecker). Even Isabella Rossellini expresses…
“In ten minutes it will be 11:30 pm. All the candles are burning. Everything is so beautiful. I feel sad. I want to write everything down that happened to me in 1929. I didn’t do well in school. Failed three subjects. Dad fell sick. I traveled alone to my aunt in Germany. And Dad died. My friend Maude died. Grandpa died. Uncle Amandus, Aunt Jenny and a cousin died in an accident. That’s all I remember. All I wish for now is a happier new year. What will the new year bring?”
on god i would die for this woman with zero hesitation and nothing would ever stop me
(also roberto rossellini jr. can like,,, get it)

"I have no regrets. I wouldn't have lived my life the way I did if I was going to worry about what people were going to say."
Ingrid Bergman: In Her Own Words is a wonderful documentary. You'll be spellbound watching this beautifully made, well-narrated biopic featuring Ingrid Bergman's own home movies, her family's interviews, etc. Her lifelong luminescence really comes through and her children often left behind due to her work, her affairs, divorces, moves around the world show such acceptance and understanding, despite having missed her for various long periods in their lives. Overall, her love of life, family and truth permeated everything.
“i always have my camera with me. i love to film. i got that from dad. he filmed me. now i film the world.”
such an intimate look into such a fascinating woman. something i found so heartwarming was that her eldest daughter was confused as to why her mother never wanted to live with her children, believing that ingrid loved her work more than anything, even them. and then, after she died, when they went through her letters thinking they would just be about her work, they found that she wrote about her children more than anything else.
Ingrid Bergman was the most gracious actress and hearing Alicia Vikander narrate such intimate moments from her letters was a divine experience
Although Ingrid Bergman in Her Own Words is a well-constructed film, using home movies, photos, and texts from Bergman's personal collection, I was disappointed by the documentary because it paints such an unfavorable portrait of the legendary actress whom I've long-admired. The film portrays Bergman as a woman who put her lovers and career before her children.
A large portion of the film consists of interviews with her children: Pia Lindström, Roberto Rossellini, Ingrid Rossellini, and Isabella Rossellini. Each of them describe how wonderful their mother was, but express how they wished she had been around more for them. Their pain is very visible. They describe being apart from their mother for months when she was filming and how they…
There aren’t enough words to describe how much I love her honestly. Happy birthday, Ingrid Bergman <3
A cinematic eulogy made possible through the stars trove of personal recordings & diary entries.
Also so confusing and amusing that Ingrid B worked with Ingmar B.
I finally got to this documentary and boy, it did not dissapoint.
Few biographic docs paint such a clear, distinct portrait of a person the way this one does and it's all thanks to the wonderful, personal home films and letters Ingrid kept. I love this idea that she inherited this way of documenting and remembering from her father and the fact that he died when she was so young only made her more intentional with keeping the memories she'd make over the years.
It's so inspiring to see the story of a woman whose work I already admired through her eyes, through her lens, through her philosophy of adventure, change, wonder and love. Talk about honoring someone's memory, my god.
Great documentary film for a great actress.
Gosh I'm so in love of Alicia Vikander's voice.
I honestly wasn't expecting much from this, but it turned out to be wonderful documentary. I love Ingrid Bergman was an actress but knew next to nothing about her life. The film hits the perfect balance in covering her - avoiding both idolization and demonization. She was a brilliant, fascinating woman. She was also deeply flawed and inflicted real trauma on her children through her choices. I loved it
Cried maybe three buckets
This woman is everything to me and this documentary represented so well everything she was and all the warmth and love she transcendent
Very pleased and honored to be named Ingrid after her
We all live, but how many of us document our world? Phone technology has significantly aided our ability to do so, but prior to Instagram, Facebook, and even Tik Tok, the average person didn’t do a lot to capture their daily lives. That’s why we get excited to read old journals, see old photographs, and look at old home videos. They not only provide insight into the people behind them, but they also give us a window into the past. The real gift of Ingrid Bergman: In Her Own Words is not the film itself, but what the great actress left behind... the many intimate records of her interesting life.
I always enjoy memoirs because I love stories of the…
