It's the oldest hotel in the city, founded in 1875, declared Nacional Monument in 1981 and located in the center of the city, in front of the Central Park and near to interesting places in Old Havana. The architecture, history, location, and the presence of the cuban culture are the principal atractions of this charming hotel. It was considered one of the most famous hotels in Cuba and the world, attracting the atention of many important personalities such us: Sara Bernhart, Enrico Carusso, Ana Pavlova, Imperio Argentina, Gabriela Mistral, Jose Marti Perez, Antonio Maceo among others . Traditional cuban music bands, piano players during breakfast, concerts by the Band of the City, launching of books, recital of poems, talkings about history and exhibitions, are the kind of activities offered to guests and cuban population. You can also enjoy the cuban plastic arts since its tables and the menu of the Colonial Restaurant designed by the most famous cuban painters.

Nestled in a coveted spot, Hotel Inglaterra charms guests with its historic ambiance and proximity to local attractions, with classic cars enhancing the experience. While some travelers find the hotel's value debatable due to varying costs and room conditions, the 19th-century decor and live music often captivate visitors. The service receives both accolades and critiques, reflecting inconsistent experiences. Although some rooms may be compact or dated, cleanliness is consistently applauded, along with the stunning rooftop views.

We recently spent 8 nights at the Inglaterra. As requested we got a balcony room facing Central Park. We found our room to be large with beautiful doors and stained glass, it was exactly what I had wanted. Our check-in was very late and we were met with a very friendly front desk person. Staff were friendly to us all week. We found our room to be very clean and our housekeeper did a wonderful job for us and did personal touches everyday.

As mentioned in previous reviews, breakfast is somewhat limited, however, being that this is Cuba it met our expectations, and more (unfortunately we didn't see sign to order omelettes until the last day). The hotel lounge was adequate, the patio out front in lovely and lively, it is very busy however and often we could not find a spot at our own hotel. The upstairs bar/lounge was nice, quieter up there during the day and the staff actually remember you. The music at both locations is lively and very good and is alot of fun.

Our room was on the 1st floor above the entrance, prime spot for people watching, listening to street noise and easy access to all that the city has to offer.

Our only issue was the noise. I felt that maybe previous reviews perhaps were overstated, however, if you have a balcony facing the front, be prepared for a high noise level from 7am until 2am. I chose the room for the view and we loved it, but, if your even the slightest bit of a light sleeper the front is not for you. I feel this is not the hotels fault, it's the price you pay for location and history. Also as a tip, if you shut bathroom door you won't hear music from upstairs bar. Next time I would not get a front facing room after a couple nights we were very much over it.

We enjoyed our stay and you can't be the location.

Rooms are ok, but the street noise can be easily heard due to single pane windows, and Maid chatter quite loud from the corridors in the morning. The bathroom is stocked with bodywash and body lotion, but not shampoo and conditioner. There is a hairdryer, but it's not very good, so if you have long or thick hair bring one from home. There is no Iron, but there is a fridge (empty). Large bottles of water are available for purchase in the lobby bar (if they haven't run out) and it's good value.

Breakfast is no longer buffet style as some of the pictures suggest. You are given half a cup of coffee, and then they bring out three plates. One has various breads on it and a bit of butter, the other has a few slices of fruit and the main plate is an omelette, a slice of cheese and a slice of ham. Sometimes there is a smoothie too. It's the same everyday, and I can only assume this is because of the unfortunate food shortages in Cuba currently.

The menu was also quite limited, a couple of dishes with meat and rice, and some sandwich options, again this may be due to the shortages, but what we did eat was pleasant and good value.

Evenings are lovely on the street terrace looking out at what's going on. It really is a great location for getting around and for that reason I would recommend this hotel.

There is a taxi rank just outside which makes the return trip to the Airport easy.

We didn’t stay at the hotel, as we stayed at the adjacent Parque Central, so cannot review the hotel itself but we did go on a couple of occasions to the rooftop bar that was fantastic.

You have to get there fairly early (7-8pm) as they close entry to bar when there are too many people.

A great rooftop location in the heart of the city with fantastic views over the city and Parque Central.

Love music from local acts, and great dancing venue. Good food also.

Bizarrely the drinks here are also good value, 3 CUC for a Cuba Libre and most cocktails whereas most other hotel rooftop bars in the area were between 5-6 CUC.

The rooftop bar was our favourite night out in Havana. Would definitely recommend.

Upon entry the hotel lobby looks very luxurious and like it came out from a movie but that's only the surface. After a few hours there you start noticing that almost nothing is clean apart from the toilets and bed sheets.

Juices in the minibar were expired for some months and most reception staff were unaccommodating and some of them rude.

Restaurant: Cutlery and plates were dirty in many cases and we had to double check every time. Given that food and taste standards are pretty low in Cuba and you have very limited options, the hotel's breakfast buffet and lunch/dinner menu is slightly bland but ok if u are starving from running around all day.

P.S: Whether you book a casa or a hotel in Havana do not expect the quality you might be used to back home - just go out, walk, enjoy the city and try not to have things like the ones mentioned above ruin your mood. We do not recommend Hotel Inglaterra BUT other hotels might be similar so do your research.

Usually doormen are not very friendy in Cuba but the worst must be at hotel Inglaterra and this is unacceptable for such a hotel.
I bought a wifi card at the desk then wanted to sit down in the lobby for 5mn and at this time of the morning there was nobody and no other guests there.
As soon as I sit down the doorman came to me and said if I m not a guest I couldnt stay there
I told him I will stay only 5 mn and I wasnt disturbing anybody anyway but he insisted and was very arrogant.
How do you sell wifi cards at the desk and having a wifi that everybody can access and then treat customers like that?
I was having drinks and meals at the terrace of this hotel before but since then never again
Teach your doorman how to behave please!

For the price you pay this hotel is a joke, despite the huge and pleasant entrance hall. I arrive in a group (15 people altogether) and it took 1 1/2 h to have everyone registered. Ridiculous (Nov 18th, 2021). We returned on Dec 7th, 2021 - 13 people) and again, the same process took still 50 minutes, with 3 employees working behind the desk!
The breakfasts are standard, brought to you straight from the kitchen (no buffet). It includes ONE single cup of coffee only, for a second one you have to pay extra. One single tea bag included. I asked for a glass of cold milk - they would have only hot milk. A few slices more bread? No, because they need the bread for later coming guests...
Luckily I booked this hotel with a tour. Just after the country opened its borders again on Nov. 15th, 2021. An individual booking would have cost € 126 for a single room.

We did not stay as guests at this hotel but stopped in once for a beverage on the rooftop terrace and then for a meal. We'd heard about the salsa dancing on the terrace and enjoyed the lively music. But our server was quite rude.

The next visit was to the covered patio at the entrance to the hotel. Again, our server didn't seem to be interested in giving even mediocre service. The meals, when they arrived after nearly an hour of waiting, were dry and not appetizing.

Dine elsewhere, there are lots of choices nearby.

Used points for a free night, which made it worth it, but wouldn't be worth the regular price. Cool to stay in a such a historic place, super clean, but a bit dreary as to be expected. Shower was tiny, but had hot water. Service wasn't great, wasn't terrible...employees aren't very friendly, but they seem to do their job. Free breakfast buffet had a lot of options (had to ask for silverware), but most of it didn't look very appetizing so I stuck with the basics. Piano player during breakfast was great. Easy to catch a cab to airport for $30 right outside. Wifi worked well. Loved how central it was to everything. However, if this is your first visit to Cuba, I would highly recommend a casa over a hotel for a more unique experience.

Ideally positioned to explore Havana, this hotel is full of charm. It is a beautiful building that has been luxurious in its day but does need some updating, especially the bedrooms/bathrooms. Having said that, I would stay there again. The main dining room is stunning and breakfast is accompanied by a live pianist. There is live music every evening at the cafe at the front of the hotel. If you want a quieter evening there is the roof top restaurant with stunning views. The staff are wonderful and can’t do enough for you. Outside the hotel there are numerous classic cars, taxis and horses and traps to take you wherever you want to go. There is also a tourist bus that run’s regularly.

Strongly recommend this central Havana hotel if you want a flavour of Cuba's colo nial past, live music at breakfast and in the outside and rooftop bars, plus great views and supper on the roof top terrace. Very comfortable bedroom with adequate ensuite. Amazing decor in the reception rooms Staff on Reception and in the rooftop bar were very helpful and friendly and always welcomed you warmly back every day! The location is perfect for exploring the city centre, choosing a classic american taxi outside, and having a balcony overlooking the main square. Would definitely stay here again.
